What a grand old structure! It was such a pleasure to live there and work with such a dedicated team that had been journeyed well before we arrived. We were there about 1982. I don’t recall that balcony on top of the porch or the railing along the porch in front of the big front window. Maybe those were added when doing the renovations. One of my favorite memories from that house was time that Lee Suggs won a $1000 shopping spree at a local grocery stores and gave the deal to the Religious House. The deal was everything in the cart up $1000 would be covered. Of course there was an impossible time limit in which to do the “deal.” We spent days planning our strategy. We put one of the youth in charge of speeding the buggy through the aisles with co-workers along the designated aisles throwing things into the basket. We decided that meat was the major item on the list. And I also remember cans of crab meat that we enjoyed as special treats. Jeremiah’s memory is of going up in Carl Larsen’s “cherry picker” bucket to take a look at something that needed repairing. Carl kept us fixed up. He also remembers all the wonderful toys that Elaine Johnson brought from the Toy Store For the several EG that lived there. We laughed until we almost threw up. It is still in my top 10. From that night on, Vida and Michaela and Mark and Catherine sort of adopted this single lady and for every eventfulness that could be created I was invited to share it with them. With profound sadness, I share this news from Mark and Catherine Welch’s family. Michaela Rose, world traveler, foodie and nurse, social justice warrior, fashionista, collector of rare and treasured antiquities, and beloved family and friend died at home on Sunday, January 20th. She was 37 years old. A Celebration of her Life will be held February 16th at 10:00 am, at Cure d’Ars Catholic Church in Denver, CO (3201 Dahlia St.). Remembering a Child of Grace

I offer this homage to a young woman whom I met infrequently during her childhood and also as a teenager. I give thanks for meeting Michaela even then as a youthful being of energy, wonder, poise and curiosity. She was ready to share with the world her unique and unrepeatable gifts and selfhood for which she will continue to be remembered in a moment and over a lifetime. Mark, Catherine, and Vida, may your memories be sweet as you journey together and await that day to arrive when you will meet again your precious Michaela, a child of Grace. Thanks, Marshall--sounds good to me. This has been our main focus through the church (local congregation, presbytery, and PCUSA) and local community since "retirement" from the full time pastorate seven years ago. Most denominations have programs moving in this direction, if congregations dare use them and connect/network with other churches and groups in a wider movement. How would he explain Bonhoeffer’s decision to kill Hitler? What makes the law (he says of the establishment) make breaking it a taboo? I wish she would have given back the image of the Trans-establishment. Gene Marshall has a wonderful diagram and statement on that. I worry about the future for that church.
