I keep remembering "The self is a relation; that relates itself to itself; and in willing to be that relation; grounds itself transparently in the power that posits it." And I remember the diagram with the lines and boxes and curvy arrows. Where did that come from (which book or paper?). What was SK pointing to? What were we pointing to? When I began to realize the depth of Donald Trump's spiritual suffering/malaise, and the awfulness of the unconscious self-hate that he projects onto others and elicits with his god-awful behavior, I could finally experience some compassion for the man in his sickness. Maybe like Billy Graham felt for Richard Nixon in his agony.Not any more.Mr. Trump's hidden suffering is minuscule in comparison to the spiritual suffering of the American people, especially those who experience remorse for voting for Trump, and those diehards who insist on living in the delusion that he's just wonderful. They are suffering so deeply that they cannot see and hear the truth that will set them free. That's called 'demon possession.'Marshall Jones(Written in 2017)

on assassination attempts

Fortunately for Donald Trump, God was paying him special attention in Butler, PA, when he managed the miracle of guiding that bullet around Trump's head so that it just grazed his ear, while killing the heroic MAGA firefighter who made the tragic mistake of sitting behind The Donald.Apparently God had to make that bullet land somewhere. It's called collateral damage. And obeying the laws of physics.And we can forget about saving the shooter Mr. Crooks to be tried by a jury of his peers. The Secret Service sharpshooter dispatched him with one federal bullet that was way cheaper than the cost of granting his right to a trial by jury and incarceration.So just what was God doing on that bright afternoon in Butler?A few people need to believe that God saved Donald Trump as part of his divine plan to usher him back into the White House.But if God needs to do that now, why did he let Trump lose the 2020 election?I prefer to believe in human freedom and divine detachment from fiddling around with creation.Since Trump's life was saved from the assassin's wayward bullet, perhaps it was so he could have the experience of American criminal justice imposed in an orange jumpsuit.You could call that divine retribution for his sins. While Joe Biden is on the way out of power, we are stuck with the self-preservation efforts of the MAGA majority of the Supreme Court.The worst thing Biden ever did was letting Justice Thomas grab his lifetime seat on the Court. Now we can all regret that outcome.So this is Biden's SCOTUS swan song, and a major shift for him, if not a full mea culpa.Chief Justice Roberts' Rules of Ethical Order are, at best, a spongy set of suggestions rather than enforceable standards of conduct.And Justices Thomas et al. are the Kings of Capitol Hill until Biden's poposed new Constitutional Amendment can curb their enthusiasm for legislating from the bench.Meanwhile, Justice Thomas will stay on the job until he can no longer exercise his tyrannical power, or resign in favor of a much younger MAGA successor that President Trump will nominate, should he return to the Oval Office, thereby confirming the unhinged autocracy of the Court for another quarter century.That threat alone is reason enough to deny Mr. Trump another term.Even if you are a traditional Republican who feels stuck with two unpalatable choices!Marshall Jones
