Thinking of you

Dear Friends, Here I am on a lovely, cool Sunday morning after 30 minutes in a very weedy patch of garden. My energy following surgery 13 days ago is limited so 30 minutes was enough. The surgery went well, the tumor was encapsulated and removed along with the kidney and ureter. No pain and little discomfort which was minimal with ibuprofen, no heavy drugs after the surgery. So I'm on a healing path with no chemo or radiation, only observation. every 6 months for a while. My elder son Bob is with me taking his special "Mom Care" time, each of my 3 adult children have been great caregivers, times to share old an new stories. Of course, my community neighbors step in to fill the gaps til now when I can do most of the own personal care. Pacing is a hard thing to learn? " I could just do this one thing more" is easy to say, right? The Rite of Passage Journeys programs are in full swing for the summer. You might be interested in their new website to be found at "Rite of Passage Journeys.Org". We welcomed back the first program of the season, the Leadership Intensive that is training youth mentors from across the country. The experiences of the trainers are always wonder-filled and deep, so good to sit in circle with them as they shared the wonder and the difficult challenges they've faced and continue to face in an uncharted future. Working with youth brought them together and created a 2 week community, one they will hold forever. As they came together in a community hug, I could tell none of them were ready to let go. Of course, by evening, the group had already dispersed as reality presented itself. Being held as an significant elder in this group and others makes my aging heart soar! Showing up with an open heart and mind along with hugs is what they ask of me. What more could I ask for? I having a great time connecting with John Burbidge, reading chapters of a possible book. His experiences are phenomenal, his writing terrific! I'm reminded again what a common name John seems to be when born in Australia. I met only 5 Johns my first week there back in 2014. And such sweet gentle, kind souls! My grand son Noah and fiance Carla will be here soon. I'll close by hoping you are finding joy 🦋 in each day as well as the challenges that life brings. 75 Plus 15

Having been breathing for 75 years, I stand ready to celebrate it all. When I stood at the end of 25, I created a 20 year time line for my life's direction. I did the same again at 45. At 65, I was beginning to be aware that a day would come sooner than later when I will have breathed in a final breath. So, it made sense at the time to create only a ten year timeline. Upon reflection, I must admit that the last ten years has been chock full of lessons learned. More so, even than the first 65 all together. I have been retired from a money making career for the past ten years. I have not been tied to a rigid time frame, nor have I had to be somewhere. All of life, every day has been totally up to me. Time and space were according to my own volition, not driven by the need to make money to survive. During this past ten years, and it has taken this long, I have been learning to free myself of living someone else's dream, accommodating them by what I do and when I do it. In the past ten years, according to my timeline's guidance, my inner mind and heart have been connecting with Soul's purpose in a whole new way. I am finally experiencing freedom. I listen to my intuitions and make decisions accordingly. My sense of social responsibility is more closely aligned with listening to real needs. My participation in responding to suffering is more realistically correlated to my age related abilities. I now stand at the apex of this 75th year with the intention to compromise on the time span of a timeline. I may die on the way, but, Hey!, that's what ut's all about! The next timeline, 15 years, will be a journey of developing the discipline of living fully in the present moment, right where I am. The "goals" will be filled with compassion and delight. As I breathe in I am breathing a final breath on 75 years on earth. *As I breathe out I am breathing unto the first moment of the new timeline's essence.* *Judi White, Crescent City, FL.*

Who Will Speak Up!

US Holocaust Memorial Museum, courtesy of Sibylle Niemoeller As I watch in muffled horror what is happening to our beloved Republic, especially in the past three years, I remembered this quote from a Lutheran pastor in Germany after it was too late to stop Hitler’s Nazi party march to obliterate the German Republic: First they came for the Communists And I did not speak out Because I was not a Communist Then they came for the Socialists And I did not speak out Because I was not a Socialist Then they came for the trade unionists And I did not speak out Because I was not a trade unionist Then they came for the Jews And I did not speak out Because I was not a Jew Then they came for me And there was no one left To speak out for me Pastor Martin Niemöller Niemoller was at first a supporter of Hitler and his policies, but as the revelations moved on to what the Nazi machine’s propaganda campaign was doing to eliminate any opposition by systematically silencing the free press, removing “sick” elements of the population, the gypsies, the handicapped, the “undesirables,” the “non-Aryans” (non-white), the Jews, and any others deemed “enemies of the State” by the Nazi party. We now know how that turned out. I am discerning some parallels to what happened there, in terms of the way a democratic republic can be chipped away at and ultimately destroyed, in our good old U.S. of A. “First he went after the Mexican immigrants by calling them rapists and murderers and the Republicans did not speak out because they were not Mexicans. “Then he went after the Muslims by calling them terrorists and the Republicans did not speak out because they were not Muslims. “Then he went after the free press by calling them “fake news” reporters and the Republicans did not speak out because they were not journalists. “Then he went after the Democrats by calling them socialists and the Republicans did not speak out because they were not Democrats. “Then he went after the Judges by calling them supporters of Democrats and the Republicans did not speak out because they were not supporters of Democrats. “Then he went after African American and Muslim and Puerto Rican American citizens who were also members of Congress telling them to “go back where they came from” and the Republicans did not speak out because they were afraid of him.” I do not know how this will turn out but I am sure of one thing. When he goes after the “fake and disloyal” Republicans, there won’t be anyone left to speak for them. Wake up America! Wake up Democrats! I like what conservative columnist David Brooks said in July 19's NYT Op-ed section titled: "Donald Trump Hates America": "Trump's vision of America is radically anti-American. The real American idea is not xenophobic, nostalgic, or racist; it is pluralistic, future-oriented, and universal. It is past time to turn the man out!
