Much has been rightly said paying tribute to Judy's remarkable life. All who knew her were blessed by her presence. One particular incident comes to mind. Judy and Jack were visiting us in Malaysia, and we decided to enjoy dinner at an outdoor stall near our house. We went in great expectation of a great meal for which the stall is noted, and we sat beneath an umbrella at a table in the courtyard. Just after we placed our order, the rain came. It was more than a rain; it was a topical deluge of massive proportions, and we were outdoors under an umbrella that shed most of the water. The other patrons ran quickly for shelter. We looked at each other, shrugged, and sat still. The waiters finally and reluctantly brought our food using portable umbrellas, and we continued the laughter and conversation that never stalled, despite being thoroughly drenched from the knees down. Judy made that a memorable moment with her light-hearted affirmation of difficult circumstances. She was a constant witness to the goodness of all that is. She will be missed. John Epps

Dear Jack, Your faithful care of and for Judy has been an inspiration for years. I celebrate you in the same breath I use to celebrate Judy's life and the contributions both of you as a team have made to the world. The first time I met Judy was about a year after I re-connected with EI/ICA (following a long disconnect reminiscent, to me, of HH's Journey to the East). I'd brought a group to the 1994 Global Gathering in Lonavala from the still-forming ICA /Zagreb, and when I met Judy and introduced her to our little Croatian contingent, she was so very warm and gracious to each of my fledglings that they all immediately felt a part of things. This in the midst of Judy having huge responsibilities for the whole conference. Yet she took time for the radical hospitality needed by three Croats who were new to ICA and also traveling outside the former Yugoslavia for the first time in the midst of dire warnings about the outbreak of Plague in India. Judy (along with some other very special, very generous colleagues like her) came to represent the new ICA for me in ways that encouraged me during my 6 years in Zagreb and Sarajevo trying to build sustainable new ICAs there. Death of Chen I-An

[image: Inline image 1] My first remembrance of Chen I-An was when he and his family were part of the Singapore House and possibly Centrum in the early to mid 80's. After returning to Taiwan to become a management consultant and teacher, he retained his ICA connection in a guardian role for a few years. Chen Yi-Teacher & management consultants Aon I only met him once since we moved here in 1990, that was by chance on the street. In encountering a few of his students over the years they always remark on the similarity of his spirit and that of ICA. He died a few weeks ago and a friend sent me his facebook connection on which I found a great picture of him (white shirt, right) - which included the ICA global grid on his wall. *SUN OCT 19** Unitarian Universalist Church, Ligonier to Sequasanta Lutheran Conference Center, Boswell, PA* I got packed up before breakfast. Food was provided again from the potluck people. We were to be out of the sanctuary by 9am. Deb shooed the Marchers out of bed and straightened up the sanctuary. I helped the kitchen crew get all of our food out to the Kitchen Truck. Then I helped Doug finish the last-minute loading of the gear truck and hooking up the solar trailer. I found out that Michael had a hard night—at a Jam until 2am then sleeping in make-shift quarters, and being late for breakfast and lunch prep, so he was also riding in the cab of the gear truck with us. Doug drove us to the next campsite. It was enormous. During the summer they have 250 to 300 kids camping at this conference center. They had cabins available a distance from the auditorium, but I chose a spot on the auditorium stage. I tried to get WiFi but my laptop wouldn’t connect. One of the supervisors plugged me in to the Internet and I got some journaling sent. Before dinner we had an All-Camp meeting. It was to decide who we wanted to speak at the initial Rally point on the March into WDC. Each of those nominated gave an introduction on what they would say. The Conference Center provided the evening meal. During the meal ballots were passed out and we voted on the candidates. Once the meal was over Gavain conducted a workshop helping people reflect on the personal journey the March had given them and where it would take them in the future. It was a continuation of a workshop he had previously done. Gavain's wife, Dana, took their three children home to the eco-village/intentional community in Missouri, I think. We have between 40 and 50 marchers with us now. -- Peace, David

*FRI OCT 17** Church of the Brethren, Monroeville, to St. Bruno RC, Greensburg, PA* We had breakfast. Mary doesn’t keep green tea so I had coffee. We thanked Jim and Mary for the home stay and Jim took us back to the Church. In the last few days I've been amazed at the number of local activists that attend our evening gatherings. The distance that they come to attend also astounds me. The last two nights we have had to travel through the city for at least a half-hour each way to get to and from the Church. So getting ‘home’, getting unpacked and settled, getting up, having breakfast, packing up and getting back to Church takes a great deal of time. Because of that I didn’t spend much time in conversation with Jim and Mary. I loaded up my bike and got on the road. There were lots of hills again today. The nice thing about hills is riding down them! Once again Deb had arranged a Home-stay. Our hosts were Nancy and Allen Kikovich. Kris, Fernando, and I were picked up by Nancy at 5:30pm. They had remodeled an old barn and made it into a cottage. We got the cottage. They were expecting their daughter home from college on a mid-semester break, so Allen took us ¼ mile down to the local diner where we had dinner. We found our way back to their house in the dark. We had a chance to shower, relax, and sleep in a real bed. *SAT OCT 18* * St Bruno RC, Greensburg to Unitarian Universalist Church, Ligonier, PA* We were notified that we were to come from the cottage to the Kikovich’s house for breakfast. Nancy served lovely egg and cheese sandwiches. Then we said goodbye to Nancy, packed up and Allen took us back to the Church. The route was 19 miles. Because of the hills the first 6 miles I averaged 3 mi/hr. I calculate I walk 2 miles for every 20 miles I'm using the bike. I left at 8:30am and got to my destination at 1:30pm. I did stop for some hot chocolate. When I arrived the Church was locked. The pastor of the Church is Rebecca Booher. I phoned her to find out if she knew of Robert Booher, a good friend of mine. She had never heard of him and didn’t know how she could be related to him. I went to a nearby Pub, ate lunch and did some journaling. The church building was very small. There was no steeple. The sanctuary had no pews. The chairs were arranged in 2 circles with an aisle though the middle from the entrance to the altar. We took the chairs down and put our bedrolls out in the sanctuary. The kitchen and dining hall were downstairs. We were blessed with a potluck. All of the locals wore name tags so I got out my March name tag and wore it. There were no presentations and no meetings, just informal conversations. One of the locals, Sara, who lived further east of the church, indicated that we would have steep hills tomorrow. Before the evening concluded I asked Doug if I could put my bike in the gear truck and ride in the cab. He said Ok. -- Peace, David

It is about the 0 Whistlepoints . . . Does anyone have any material on them that you can send to me? Jim Wiegel here. I want to pull together a small collection of background material on the 9 Whistlepoints which were developed out of the Summer 71 and Summer 72 Research Assemblies. I believe they may also have been used extensively as part of lecture 5 in the original LENS course. Jan Sanders did a brief presentation on them at the closing of the Global Archives Research Assembly last month.
