Of course I have to add something to this!Somewhere JWM pointed out that part of what he called 'essential dubiety' is "being onto yourself."It's knowing that finally, you know you're a fake.Even after getting your PhD or whatever. And giving up forever your innocent entitlement to think so highly of your false sense of 'integrity.'Like "111 fights and never took a dive!"So that you can finally surrender to God "the deed that has become necessary, and is nevertheless . . . free . . ." And see that even Jesus, who was his disciples' Lord and Master, was, at some level, a fake.The disciples knew it, because they knew Mister High and Mighty had to take a shit every day just like everybody else.And Jesus knew he was a fake Messiah, even as he rode into Jerusalem on a donkey and was mocked as 'King of the Jews.'Giving up his moral integrity as a pacifist was necessary for Bonhoeffer to be radically free to participate in the plot to assassinate Hitler. Who knew that Google would have an answer to every question! Essential dubiety DESCRIPTION: This is an awareness of the possibility that one may be the victim of the great cosmic charade - life is a joke. One is thrown into self-doubt even in moments of great victory: it simply cannot be true. In the book "The Magus" something like this happens when the main character realizes he is not the main character; or it is like discovering at the age of 25 that one is an adopted child, or a young child realizing that his parents have betrayed him. There is a haunting possibility that one's life may be the most painful tragic/comedy ever created. A dimension of this experience is a sense of awe, that is fear and fascination. Please check your books to see if you have a copy that you would donate to the Archives. During our intern year in 1969, John and I were privileged to be assigned to George and Rose’s Apt. at one of the outbuildings on Trumbull after they were sent on some overseas assignment. We felt so “rich” because it meant that we had a separate room for Johnny, instead of the bunkbed room in the main building. But more important was their loft bed with a desk underneath, with a poster of Picasso’s Blue Man on the wall. We felt “set up” for the mission. George and Rose played a big part in settling us into the idea of staying on longer than we had initially planned. Some years (around 1977), John was assigned to the set-up phase of the Cano Negro HDP in Venezuela and was able to share that story with George. He recalls the same laid-back style that we knew in Chicago was a powerful tool in enabling the participation of local people from that village. He was a master community builder. Read about his experiences as Dean of the Urban Academy in the Archives, under the Spirit Movement Collection. We give thanks for this exemplary life of service to the world.

Hi I have been a fan of the Other World since I first saw it. Many of the items illuminated or put memorable words onto my experience such as "emerging from a stuffy sewer" However many of the intriguing though mysterious terms remain opaque, such as Essential Dubiety Can anyone say more about this as well as other terms on the Other World charts?
