*TUE OCT 21** UMC Camp Allegheny, Stoystown to Trinity Lutheran, Bedford, PA* I checked the upcoming terrain on Mapquest last night. It was another 1000 ft of climb on the way to Bedford. So I planned to be a passenger in the Gear truck for the 3rd day in a row. The route was listed as 25 miles. Last evening we designated wake-up time as 6am. We were to have all of our gear in the Gear truck by 7am, then go to the auditorium (1/4 mile) for breakfast: the Camp let us use the auditorium to make our own breakfast. We waited another hour before Kim announced that we should Circle-up. Circle-up finally happened at 8:45am. People are really tired, but there is little grumbling. It had rained overnight so the pavement was wet and it was very foggy. trailer. The Gear truck was finally loaded at 9:15am. Doug went to talk with JJ. I didn’t realize until we stopped at the local coffee shop in Stoystown that they had agreed to stop for coffee. The coffee shop had a sign posted that said Open 11am. Instead of going in Doug decided to wait another 15 minutes for JJ to arrive. Once he arrived Doug took another 10 minutes conferring with him. I began journaling on a piece of scrap paper! Once we departed I began to reflect on how much I enjoy riding my bike. It has become an adventure. For me, waiting around for people to get up, eat breakfast, and pack up, and eventually riding in the cab, is not much of an adventure. However, it was clear that I made the right decision today. It was foggy, there was a narrow shoulder, Hwy 30 is blacktop, was wet, and we reached a summit that had a sign—2300 feet elevation. I would have had to walk up a number of hills and go slowly down them with a minimum shoulder which was also wet. . Doug stopped to fill up the truck’s gas tank. I got some hot chocolate. When we arrived at the church we had difficulty parking the solar trailer and the gear truck. Once the associate pastor oriented us to the building Doug helped me get my bike off the truck so people could get down the truck aisle and get their things. I had time to make a digital file of *Which Side Are You On?*, the song introduced to us in Pittsburg. The fellow who introduced it reminded us that singing binds us together. I want us to learn it and sing it. I also made a copy of *The Impossible Dream* (it ought to be our theme song), and a copy of the script I plan to use to recruit schools for *ClimateChangeIsElementary* program in northern NV when I get home. The March has a printer and I’ll get Jeffrey or John Abbe to do some printing. The Marchers straggled in. The church members sat us down at tables and served us the meal. It’s the first time we've been served a meal rather than buffet style. After dinner the GMCA’s Village Council members had a meeting. The main topic was whether or not the gear truck would pull the solar trailer and be driven back to Des Moines, or whether provisions would be made to sell the truck in WDC and find an alternate way to get the trailer back. They went on and on. The issue will be brought to an All-Camp meeting in the next couple of days. -- Peace, David

This is sad news. Chen I-An gave Chris, Doug, and me our Chinese names before we left for the Kaohsiung House. He also advised and helped with site selection for the Hai Ou Project. He did yeoman work translating during the consult and (I think) holding the hands of the young students we pressed into service to translate small groups and to help launch the project. I don't think we'd have had a document in Chinese were it not for him. We tried to look him up when we were in Taiwan and Malaysia last spring, but did not manage it. That's a regret. We depend on so many for so much in our lives. An opportunity perhaps.... Out of curiosity, one day I decided to take a look at what *Saviors of God*, an out of print book, would sell for now. There is at least one box, and perhaps more, of unused, paperback copies of Saviors of GOD in the ICA basement archive. Some figures for* unused* copies of the book: - The most common price range for the softcover, unused copies is: $50-$94. - I found one used trade paperback price at $147.00 - Soft cover at $184.00 - Hard cover at $228.00 This may be a way to raise some much needed funding for the ICA Global Archives. I would like to know if anyone has experience in following up on this information or would like to track down how to deal with out of print book dealers. Beret Griffith

*MON OCT 20** Sequasanta Lutheran Conference Center, Boswell to UMC Camp Allegheny, Stoystown, PA* I asked about the upcoming terrain last night. It was more hills (mountains). I chose to ride the Gear truck again and Doug said Ok. Anita, from Ontario, also chose to ride. She has been riding her bike and chose another option, like me, to riding in the mountains. On the way to the campsite we stopped at the Memorial Park where Flight 93 crashed on 9/11. I hadn’t paid attention to how the crash happened. The pilot and passengers invaded the pilots’ room where the hijackers had taken over and brought the plane down before it could make its scheduled crash on the World Trade Center. They sacrificed their lives! The campsite had a large auditorium with a kitchen and it also provided us a cabin with 6 rooms. Each room had 6 bunk-beds. I put my sleeping bag out on a mattress. Late afternoon we had a meeting to discuss proposed stops on the March into WDC. 1. Bangladesh Embassy 2. Smithsonian Zoo 3. Org. of American States 4. Occupy DC near Freedom Park On Nov 1 we start from Bethesda, MD and March to DC. In order to simplify it and keep on schedule we decided to eliminate #3. There are volunteers to research each location. We’ll have a report next Mon. The Conference Center provided the evening meal. There were no locals beside the kitchen staff. The Marchers had conversation with each other. After dinner, back at the Cabin Lounge there was another meeting. It focused on the agenda for Nov 3-7 activities. Dear Jack, Your faithful care of and for Judy has been an inspiration for years. I celebrate you in the same breath I use to celebrate Judy's life and the contributions both of you as a team have made to the world. The first time I met Judy was about a year after I re-connected with EI/ICA (following a long disconnect reminiscent, to me, of HH's Journey to the East). I'd brought a group to the 1994 Global Gathering in Lonavala from the still-forming ICA /Zagreb, and when I met Judy and introduced her to our little Croatian contingent, she was so very warm and gracious to each of my fledglings that they all immediately felt a part of things. This in the midst of Judy having huge responsibilities for the whole conference. Yet she took time for the radical hospitality needed by three Croats who were new to ICA and also traveling outside the former Yugoslavia for the first time in the midst of dire warnings about the outbreak of Plague in India. Judy (along with some other very special, very generous colleagues like her) came to represent the new ICA for me in ways that encouraged me during my 6 years in Zagreb and Sarajevo trying to build sustainable new ICAs there. *SUN OCT 19** Unitarian Universalist Church, Ligonier to Sequasanta Lutheran Conference Center, Boswell, PA* I got packed up before breakfast. Food was provided again from the potluck people. We were to be out of the sanctuary by 9am. Deb shooed the Marchers out of bed and straightened up the sanctuary. I helped the kitchen crew get all of our food out to the Kitchen Truck. Then I helped Doug finish the last-minute loading of the gear truck and hooking up the solar trailer. I found out that Michael had a hard night—at a Jam until 2am then sleeping in make-shift quarters, and being late for breakfast and lunch prep, so he was also riding in the cab of the gear truck with us. Doug drove us to the next campsite. It was enormous. During the summer they have 250 to 300 kids camping at this conference center. They had cabins available a distance from the auditorium, but I chose a spot on the auditorium stage. I tried to get WiFi but my laptop wouldn’t connect. One of the supervisors plugged me in to the Internet and I got some journaling sent. Before dinner we had an All-Camp meeting. It was to decide who we wanted to speak at the initial Rally point on the March into WDC. Each of those nominated gave an introduction on what they would say. The Conference Center provided the evening meal. During the meal ballots were passed out and we voted on the candidates. Once the meal was over Gavain conducted a workshop helping people reflect on the personal journey the March had given them and where it would take them in the future. It was a continuation of a workshop he had previously done. Gavain's wife, Dana, took their three children home to the eco-village/intentional community in Missouri, I think. We have between 40 and 50 marchers with us now. -- Peace, David
