What has anyone heard from our colleagues in Kathmandu since the devastating earthquake last night? A friend of mine just heard from one family, longtime friends, and they have survived. Beret Griffith
The New York City school kids have been trying to reach Tri-Ratna Coop school kids via skype, twitter, Facebook with no result so far.
The kids 16 NYC school kids did a citizen journalism project based learning initiative with the TRC earlier this Spring.
So fare no one has been able to establish communication.
The TRC school is about 45 minutes from the center of Kathmandu.
Wind and Waves is publishing a story soon of the project with some photos and writing that got created.

Hope the quake didn't affect the school and the kids. If you get any news that it did, please let me know and I'll try and tag a couple of lines to update the story if its not too late for that. We awake to more grim news that the current toll of those dying is over 3,000 and rising. More aftershocks and rain are coming. I must confess to being somewhat bewildered that I am sitting here safe, warm with stable ground underneath my feet. This is the news that Ishu, the coordinator of programs for ICA shared when asked how we can help. We are currently researching the situation. We do not know exactly the extent of help we need to provide at this moment. But we assume that we definitely need a great help from your end. ICA Nepal sincere request you all to pray and discuss about the possibilities of providing help to Nepal in anyway possible. There was a second earthquake Monday afternoon (NST) with a quite huge magnitude. The situation further deteriorated with the rain. Some of us fortunate that we at a relatively safe place with our family and loved ones but still we are out of power and drinking water. Just imagine how challenging the situation are for those who lost their loved ones, injured and not together with their families. ICA Nepal can only hope that Nepali people will recover from this situation soon. The actual damage is still unknown which we predict will be a massive one. Hence, from where you are please extend a help in anyway possible. Janet A. Loren spoke with several people at the Tri-Ratna Co-op school in Bangamati today- the head of the coop, the principal and the math teacher. Several teachers have lost homes. At least one staff member is livening in a tent. One child in the village has died. The Bangamati district has received extensive damage to many homes. Two main historic temples are destroyed. The Hindu and Buddhist temples drew many tourists and visitors to see them. There is a shortage of shelter and basic supplies for district people especially those who have gathered in the open air bus staging area for safety Loren plans to leave in 2 weeks with hand tools. It remains to be seen if the planned project with 16 student teachers from Georgia will be able to participate in the teacher to teacher program at the school. Prayers and support are needed, of course. Steve Tri-Ratna Cooperative School http://ymrc-nepal.org/bungamati/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=20&Itemid=37
