In most local communities in California, there's no longer an Episcopal congregation. They're "Anglican" in order to keep the sexual orientation of their clergy hetero. Yes, the founding of the Ecumenical Catholic Churches is the opposite of what is happening in the Episcopal Church. The one involves division in favor of conservative values, the other is division in favor of progressive values. _____ From: oe-bounces@lists.wedgeblade.net [mailto:oe-bounces@lists.wedgeblade.net] On Behalf Of LAURELCG@aol.com Sent: Thursday, May 03, 2012 12:23 PM To: oe@lists.wedgeblade.net Subject: Re: [Oe List ...] The Roman Catholic Church, the Old Catholic movement, and o... This is really quite inaccurate. As Bud T. has also pointed out. The "schism" of the Episcopal Church was highly overrated. Quite a small group (like 4 Bishops and part of the membership of fewer than 100 churches) left and formed their own thing which is not recognized by anyone. The Episcopal Church itself seems to be doing just fine, including attracting not only those supportive of LGBT people and women, but also a fair number of disenchanted ex-Catholics, particularly from Latin America. Jann, I'm a native Californian. That's not true. Last Sunday I was at an Episcopal Church in Pittsburgh. This was one of the 4 dioceses where the Bishop (in this case, Robert Duncan, the new head of the Anglican schism). The episcopal Church in Pittsburgh is still alive and well.
