I was sent by Marilyn and Judy to an AARP "HomeFit" workshop to gather tips on "aging in place" especially around household modifications and improvements. Last week, on some zoom call, (they start to merge . . .) Ken and Ruth Gilbert were talking about their move from Springfield Illinois to Washington state -- Ken was insisting to call it "repotting" -- like you do with houseplants so their roots and all can continue to grow -- stressful in the short term, yet good for further growth. She asked me if I would send her a card listing a particular gift she brought to the world or at least a card. No problem- her mom is full of gifts. And then this morning John Patterson called me up looking for an email address. We chatted and he let me know that his 80th birthday was April 22, Earth Day. It is just like John to have his birthday on the most important day of the year. I think it is part of the Order Rule that we send anybody who makes it to 80 a card holding up a gift. Well, at least a card. I just sent John a card that said, “I looked all over Chicago for an 80th birthday card, but nothing. This is as close as I could get- Happy 90th birthday- something to grow into!” Marilyn Oyler: 4208 N. 25thStreet, Phoenix, AZ, 85016, USA John Patterson: 1487 Cranberry Lake Road, Haliburton ON, KOM 1S0, Canada Being late is good- just send a card.
