And yet. Some of the MAGA folk are engaged in day to day support work for low and moderate income families. And they do not trust what seems to be a threat and a double standard to their challenges. Some see ‘apple cart upset’ as the answer to blind regulatory and arbitrary rules that don’t fit their experience. Umm – my assumption is that we should all take a deep breath. While there are substantive and deep differences at the level of both personality and policy, the common message is that we need to talk them through, not shoot the opposition. Violence comes from the scapegoating of ‘the enemy’ as though we can achieve stability by destruction. My ‘prayer,’ – that we can care enough about one another and the world we live in to listen, and to understand the serious opposition is really loyal to the common core even as it is irritating and frustrating in the encounter.
