Sarah, I can give you feedback. I have a dear friend who lives in Mumbai,in one of the further suburbs. She was trying to go get her second shot tomorrow and has had to cancel. She says the whole thing is a Living Hell. Those numbers are the number of cases, not deaths. But the death rate is climbing. A city the size of New Delhi is down to 6 beds available for Covid patients. There are no jobs for a huge migrant population that work in the service industry. Having lived there for 22 years I can attest to how many and how well it functioned. Then Covid came and because they don’t have savings they are heading home. But trains now have limits to how many can travel due to Covid (with masks). You can see video of hundreds of cars sidelined because they cannot be used. Many people from other States in the country are reversing the journey and walking across the country. The Prime Minister is in deep trouble because his measures are not working. I live in Mexico now and India was the main source for much of its vaccines. India has stopped all exports. I am 81 and still can’t get a shot here in Nayarit. The good news is that we are quite separated from other houses, but the local village is not. It will just be a matter of time before the virus will strike here. His comments about a meeting in Detroit the summer of 1966 caught my attention. Evidently the group was discussing whether or not to use the Tillich paper in RS-1. Can you even imagine NOT having the Tillich paper in RS-1? Not going out of the church and playing the Tillich game? So, do any of you know anything about this discussion? It would be great and instructive to detail a bit the wider history of the RS-1 course. Apparently the 44 hours did not fall complete from heaven. I took the course in November 25-27, 1966 and returned for RS-1 Pedagogy sometime in the spring of 1967. By that time, there was a manual and the course was an amazingly crafted event. Mary Laura Jones once described her earlier experience of "RS-1" as a weekend at a camp with Joe Mathews talking. Jim, we bumped into the pastor of the “church across the street“ from Joe’s, while we were in Dallas in the early 1990’s. We had moved from NYC to the Casa View neighborhood of Dallas, and went to a little church unaware of any EI connection. On our first visit, there were pieces of typing paper posted around the sanctuary with the names of people’s saints on them, and one of them said JOSEPH WESLEY MATHEWS. We were astonished of course. We came back to church & the pastor’s Sunday School class a few times, and he would absolutely fill the blackboard in the way we used to teach. The pastor was Will Bailey, and he told us that Slicker used to pastor the church across the street. We were thrilled to find this church and Will Bailey, but in the end we couldn’t handle the pure grief of the congregation as they prepared to let Bailey retire after more than 40 years there. Thanks Jim for videos of Slicker. My response is way too long but of course there had to be discussions of what should remain or replace any part of the final RS-I course. Can’t remember actually how or when that which I think was called religious studies became a 44 hour course call RS-I. I was only 21 at the time! It was because I first experienced it in pieces and not necessarily in the sequential order of the final course. I remember how excited Jack was with all of it and how he tried (in my opinion) to copy the way JWM was doing it at SMU. I loved the participatory way we studied the stories or papers but not particularly JWM’s style of doing it. I had studied the bible and the stories of the bible and knew all the parables but it was so much more enjoyable to listen to the personal stories the teachers shared and asked questions so that everyone shared theirs. Then in 1994 (I think JWM (with I think Joe Slicker and maybe Joe Pierce or David McClesky) came to New Orleans to teach the 44 hour RSI course that Jack and I had recruited all our family and friends to attend. I was very disappointed! They had left out quite a lot of material that I had really resonated with especially regarding what GOD, Jesus, the CHRIST, and Holy Spirit were or meant. What seemed to me at the time to be missing was the embracing nature of the Way Life Is regardless of my response to it at the time. And Jesus as the “way, truth, and Life, seemed to be missing or not obviously connected for me. But I liked the All is Good, I am Received, Past is Approved, and the Future is Open. I felt the course completely left out the essence of the Holy Spirit part of the Trinity. And the word “care” did not hold within it the sacred or holy or deeper/ultimate meaning of the word “love” for me because it left out the unconditional part of it. It also seemed to leave out " the Way Life Is" always ultimately is of benefit to human beings, whether of course in the moment, situation, or experience one thinks or feels that it is experiencing something that is not to his or her benefit. But after that very first RS-I event a cadre was formed that met weekly I think. The Holcombs, Priest Alerdine, Carlos Zervigon and first wife, the Joe and Joy Thomas, my Mother, Pat Tueke before she married Dan) the Philbrooks,were whom some of you may remember and others who I can’t remember their names now were apart of it. And it was fun to meet and talk about how the Church might be more of a help to those suffering innocently, and be instruments of service to their parishes and ultimately to the whole world. When I got my first assignment to attend Pegagogy I had told Jack who told JWM I would not be coming because I did not want to “teach” it. So JWM came to our apt to escort me at the time it was suppose to start to the class which he was teaching. So I went! And I was terrible at carrying out my assigned parts of the course. My stories were so “different” than those the others used etc. etc. etc. and I felt uncomfortable and unable to “copy the masculine pedagogy style” that I saw the other women willing and able to do at the time. I remember how skillfully encouraging and lovingly JWM responded to my performances as a pedagogue, but many of the others were quite critical. David Scott here -- I really can't image such a discussion taking place -- certainly not a serious discussion. Summer 66 was the first summer program with a general audience (students, teachers, church folk) [our first summer program was 65 and we only had college students. By the way I have written a history of the start of the summer programs starting with 65 college work/study program.] Back to the Tillich issue -- initially RS-I was taught on a week-night format (I believe it was originally 9 weeks). There was two session per section, each sections having two study papers -- example: God section -- Bultman and Niebuhr (The Nature and Existence of God). The Christ sessions used Knox's The Event and the Story for the first session and Tillich in the second (I may have them reversed - Tillich first and Knox second). It could be that there was some discussion regarding which of the papers would be used when we went to the week-end format. Still I can not imagine it was ever considered that we use Knox instead of Tillich. Just a bit more history -- in the fall of 1962 or 63, Patricia and I participated in a week-night RS-I taught in Evanston. I only remember Slicker and Donna McCleskey as teachers. Also, I believe that the Peseks were in that RS-I. (I must confess that I did not make it through the entire 9 weeks -- I thought "I'm in seminary and I dont' need this crazy theology in RS-I; Patricia made it through the entire course. I was not until fall of 1964, when Pat and I moved to the Westside, that I had the complete RS-I. It was, of course, a week-end course and the Allens (Steve and Linda), the Fishels (Bob and Judy), and the Scotts (Pat and David). I can still remember Steve and I walking around the old chapel after the Saturday morning session and my saying over and over again, "Steve, it can't be as simple as accepting your acceptance -- it can't be that simple." Steve just kept saying, "It is that simple -- you have to accept your acceptance." This is a lengthy way to say that Tillich was firmly set in the "canon" by the fall of 1964 -- and I do not remember Tillich ever being questioned as a part of the RS-I curriculum. Hello Len, Go to the archives and listen to the recording and video of Gordon Harper talking about those earlier days. It might trigger a memory of your own since you were there. And then again it may not. We may never find out what Gordon was speaking of. Many people from other States in the country are reversing the journey and walking across the country.
The Prime Minister is in deep trouble because his measures are not working. I live in Mexico now and India was the main source for much of its vaccines. India has stopped all exports. I am 81 and still can’t get a shot here in Nayarit. The good news is that we are quite separated from other houses, but the local village is not. It will just be a matter of time before the virus will strike here. Right now they are not vaccinating the whole population, only if you are over 60 years of age.

Just spoke to Hiraman Mohan Borkar, Asaram's brother- in-law communicated this information Asaram Bhoyar passed away in his village yesterday. The cremation was today. He had an underlying heart condition. He died at home. It is unclear if he died of Covid. The symptoms reported sound like he had Covid 19. Sent from my iPhone

So sad for India. Modi is a Hindu nationalist. Here in Canada, it is the conservative and populist led Provinces (Ontario, Alberta, Quebec, Manitoba & Saskatchewan) that are very much in the worst circumstances. True too for Brazil. Not so true for Russia, but are their stats accurate? Cheers for Australia and New Zealand, and now the United States. Ken
