This song was a powerful one for me, even with its old style gender. I never did find a replaceable word that fit the meter and the meaning. Wish I could hear some of our great voices and our not so great voices singing this on this Pentecost Sunday. I recall how the harmony filled the room with its power. Sing out wherever you are! Lynda Cock PENECOST HYMN Tune: There's New World Coming Like the sound of heaven with the rushing of the wind Came the fire a-burning and new life was given to men. The young see visions and the old dream dreams Born of fire, filled with power, for all men. To the light from darkness, and to freedom from fear Building from the ashes into one community Peter, Paul, and Luther, Augustine and Benedict Born of fire, filled with power, for all men. With despair abounding and a lack of hope around Still the Spirit comes to the ones who birth the day Giving breath and being to the ones who give their death Born of fire, filled with power, for all men. For the coming ages and the journey of mankind We claim the promise that the fire give life to them Deciding freely to live on behalf of all Born of fire, filled with power, for all men.
Lynda, Thank you for sending this. I'm a little embarrassed to admit that I had forgotten that this is Pentecost Day but promise the read the story in the Acts of the Apostles before the day is over. I love the song despite some of the language, which I think is a larger issue than just gender. As you know, a big piece of our "new consciousness" is that our "on behalf of" living has expanded beyond just the human community to become inclusive care for the whole of creation. So for me as I hum the song today, while trying to preserve at least some of the meter, I will put in the place of "for all men" the phrase "for the world." Have a great day in the Spirit of Pentecost. Randy

PENECOST HYMN Tune: There's New World Coming
Like the sound of heaven with the rushing of the wind Came the fire a-burning and new life was given to men.

Yes indeed, Sarah. Amen. And thanks, Zoe, for your query. How do we communicate other dimensions of consciousness like heaven and hell? My Tibetan Buddhist teacher says mankind is in the Bardo between two epochs of planetary evolution, very much like what was experienced at the time of the original Pentecost. It is a tug of war between the crystallized energy patterns of the past and new energy forms charged for the future. Interestingly, 2017 is the year that was prophesied as the year the Buddha would return. In the meditations to open the heart in order to receive energy flowing from the center of the Milky Way galaxy, my teacher gives permission to imagine it as Christ Consciousness or as Buddha Consciousness. What a wonderful discussion to find this morning. Thank you all.
Just want to remind us that the Earth, Gaia, is our mother, the mother of all mankind, and a living being. I just sang the hymn solo, leaving in "men", thinking mankind, and sing "for our Mother". I've come to love all the Madonna images.
Kristen Knutsen is in the Monterey Community Hospital on life support. She went in with a high fever. They amputated an infected toe. Then she developed an embolism in a lung. Kyle and Frank have landed in San Francisco and are going to pick up Joan at Monterrey airport. Please, fervent prayers for healing, comfort and love to surround the family.
Blessings,

I agree that Earth is a more appropriate word than World. World is a political term, Earth is more comprehensive. As one of our best song writers I trust your judgements and would urge you to do the editing to bring that song into our lexicon we can sing with gusto and Spirit!
Thanks!

jean long here - The tune was the one sung by the Seekers, I think, to their song: There's a new world somewhere they call the promised land - and I'll be there someday if you will hold my hand - I could search the whole world over until my life is thru, but I know I'll never find another you. chorus: It's a long, long journey so stay by my side xxxxxxxx xxxxxxx 2nd verse- If they gave me a fortune my treasure would be small I could lose it all tomorrow and never mind at all. but if I should lose your love, dear, I don't know what I'd do 'cause I know there'll never be another you- ou ou ou ou - another you. ...and for those of you who can remember the magic -- my reminder that when we did the year of the Love Songs we contexted them by a suggestion that the "you" referred to might be replaced by "the mystery" -- and the songs were transformed - for me at least. jean long global archives chicago On Sun, Jun 4, 2017 at 10:05 AM, Jack Gilles via OE <oe@lists.wedgeblade.net
