*The GMCA is over and David is safely home and beginning to catch up with putting the last of his journal on the computer. So, here are some installments if you want to keep reading.* *MON OCT 27* *Unitarian Universalist Ch, Hagerstown to Fire Station, Myersville, MD* Bill & company at the church, served breakfast. There were a number of options instead of granola and yogurt: scrambled eggs, fresh fruit, and much more. After circle-up I got on my bike and rode on into Hagerstown. I hadnʼt checked MapQuest to see the elevation. There were quite a few hills. The route was 16 miles and I estimate I walked 3 miles. I stopped and ate lunch along the way. I donʼt think I mentioned that the range-shift handle on my bike has broken. All of the ranges--Low/Middle/High are available. But it automatically goes into low range so I have to hold the handle to keep it in the top 2 ranges. Shortly after I started riding the bottom of the seat frame broke. It shifted my back further backwards and I had difficulty keeping my feet on the pedals. When I got to the fire station I checked to see if there were any welders in Myersville. There werenʼt any. So I got permission from JJ to ride his bike tomorrow morning. The Myersville Fire Department let us use their meeting hall/auditorium. It was big enough to be 2 basketball courts and was filled with tables and chairs. Once again the host meal-prep crew provided us with dinner. They made a marvelous dinner for vegans, vegetarians, and omnivores. Before and after dinner there were several meetings happening simultaneously. They were all focused on the March into DC and the following week. There were Marchers around the edges tied to their computers. Apparently they didnʼt think they had anything to offer. I didnʼt either so I went to bed. *TUE OCT 28* *Fire Station, Myersville to All Saints Episcopal Church, Frederick, MD* The lights were turned out in the hall overnight. They were still out at 7am. Once again the host meal-prep crew provided us with breakfast. We donʼt have anyone assigned to cook. Since theyʼre providing the food I think theyʼre making a contribution to our budget. We do have a dishwashing crew. We had to pack lunch and eat breakfast in the dark. The night before I had misunderstood Sarahʼs email. She indicated that Michael Dowd, author of the book, THANK GOD for EVOLUTION, would be speaking at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation and gave the route directions in the Tuesday email. I copied the directions down and set off for the Church. It was up and down hill all the way into Frederick. It was easier to ride because I used JJʼs bike. When I arrived at the Church I discovered that I had copied down the wrong set of directions. Michael Dowd was making his presentation at this U.U. Church in the evening, but the March was staying at the Episcopal Church. So I rode 7 miles out of the way for the 11 mile route, and had to go back 5 miles into town. The host meal-prep crew had lunch snacks out for us. Although I was late, the gear truck hadnʼt arrived. The lunch I had packed was on my recumbent in the gear truck, so I had lunch off the table. The topic for the All-camp meeting focused on “What do you want to take away from the March, and how can the March support you in the future?” Many people had a response. Iʼve already decided that I want to work with Dave Finnegan to promote CLIMATE CHANGE IS ELEMENTARY. The host meal-prep crew provided us with dinner.
