While we were painfully aware of the atrocities toward Aoriginals , that the mission had been closed for many years was as much an atrocity. The residents had been stripped of their ancient wisdom and skills and we're living on the fringes of Kuninara. Ever.y single person by age 16 was addicted to alcohol and so many with late stages of stds. That the community qas able to return to the mission as a human development project; that some progress was made, qas a miracle of miracles. What it eventually became was another sad tale. But what an amazing adventure into being human today, healing as the journey continues. On Thu, Mar 7, 2019, 10:24 PM Richard and Maria Maguire via OE < oe@lists.wedgeblade.net> wrote:
We were painfully moved to see this article on Oombulgurri's history today. This sort of massacre was all to common in Australia in the past, but we did not know that Oombulgurri had also been affected. I'm not even sure that our colleagues who were there in the 70's knew about it, at least no one ever mentioned it to us.
All the more to everyone's credit for how much people there were able to accomplish.
Best wishes
