Dear Bill, Joanne, and John, It is hard to imagine being the child of Joe Slicker! What a man! In many ways, he was so tough, but inside there was deep concern and spirit. I remember being in a group called, "Research Centrum" that he led in the early 70's. This was during the time that The Man of La Mancha film was really popular. Our group met at eight o'clock every morning, and yes, every morning, Joe had us sing, "The Man of La Mancha." At first I thought it was rally hokey, but as the quarter progressed, the words and music became more important to everyone. It turned out to be a real spirit exercise, that I think only Joe could have pulled off.
