It was New Year's Eve because the last Kemper employee was scheduled to walk out the front door and lock it at 12:01. We had to take over building security at that point. There were still lots of trips the next day, including one from the print shop with big sheets of paper we could tape up to cover the windows between our rooms. Pat must have been somewhere that day because it was about three months later getting ready for daily office that the paper I had taped to the windows all let loose and fell. That was when we discovered that the Druckenmillers hadn't taped anything to their windows. Margaret On 2020-12-20 20:10, Jo Nelson via OE wrote:

It was not New Year's Day. I remember moving in the night and dressing in a half-glass room to go teaching the next day. (I do think we decided to take that day off and wait to go back till the next day, since the logistics of getting off were pretty daunting.) I looked up January 1, 1972. It was a Saturday, so we would not have been trying to go to school on Sunday. I think we may have planned to move then, but something got in the way and we delayed a few days.
Anybody have a personal calendar from back then?

And we did spend all of New Year's Eve of 1971-2 moving from the West Side, using only the freight elevator in the back.

Sherwood,
Yes that is true. But you have to take into account that a dollar back then was worth a lot more than a dollar today.

More accurate perhaps to say "acquired" the building. As I recall, perhaps mistakenly, the first of us moved in under cover of darkness early on January 1, 1972. Anyway, Happy Holidays!

The year 2021 brings dual celebrations of 100 years since the ICA GreenRise building was constructed and 50 years since the ICA moved into the building. The ICA is wrapping up 2020 with an End of the Year Funding Campaign to celebrate these milestones and position its service in 2021.
In a challenging 2020, ICA staff strengthened the GreenRise programs, learned to facilitate online, hosted online global assemblies and more. Attached is a summary page highlighting 2020 programs with glimmering visions for 2021.
