[Oe List ...] Swamp Gravy

Swamp Gravy had been going for several years when I had the opportunity to take my parents on a little trip to visit some of their roots. Mother was from North Georgia and they had lived in Huntsville and Guntersville, AL, so that made a nice loop trip from TN which also included visiting Mom’s family and the place where I was born. But the destination was Swamp Gravy. We were hosted graciously by Nan and Bill Grow in their Colquitt, GA home. We enjoyed the tour of the town and met up with Joy Jinks along the way who told the Mayhaw Jelly story. Mom and Dad thoroughly enjoyed meeting the Grows and their stories of the development of that town, and were rocked by the quality of the Swamp Gravy performance and the transformed Cotton Hall. We’ve followed the success of that project through the years. How amazing to hear that story again on NPR and to celebrate the gift of that social demonstration of local care and passion. Thank you, Seth, for putting us on to this treasure. Some of this info is also on the ICA Archives under Imaginal Education! Such image change it is.

In addition to thanking Bill and Joy, we especially remember Nan Grow and her part of working with the community to build this demonstration that has been copied in many other places. Gratitude abounds for expenditure of colleagues in so many places. Lynda Cock
