Hi John,
Thank you for your email as you begin your journey of hospice care and continuing wonderful care by Ann.  I think we first met in Summer 70--we were in the same ecclesiola or whatever that group was called.  Carleton and I have always appreciated your intellectual clarity, insight, wisdom and sense of humor.  Thanks for being part of this strange extended family and Spirit Movement.  You are part of all of us, and for that, we are very grateful.

GordonHarper was always a role model for me, partly because of his humor, articulateness,and creativity. I especially appreciated his final posting which he termed abrief collegium. So here goes mine.            Yesterday I was enrolled in a homehospice system. It represents the culmination of 13 years of treating prostatecancer which now has expanded beyond that. The very good doctors have done allthey can and recommended that hospice care is next. Ann is taking very goodcare of me. No one knows or says whether there are days, weeks or months left,so I wanted to let you know and to say two things.            1. First, I want to apologize forany and all offenses occasioned by my arrogance, naivete, and ignorance.            2.More important, I want to expressreal gratitude for the privilege of being part of this body of colleagues. It’slike what an extended family would like to be but never quite makes it.  You are my extended family and I’m honored tobe part of it.
