Hi
Though it's the same shape as the Wedgeblade, it has a vertical
orientation. This was the symbol for anarchy in the 6o's (and maybe
still is). I remember some critics of ICA (negatively) pointing our the
similarity back then, similar to the "ICA-CIA" trope from the "other"
side.* It's postion on the Wired cover picture is in line with it being
the "anarchy" symbol.
"Anarchy" is often seen as "disorder" and negative, also in the
dictionary. However if you read the writings of "anachists" you will
find that they are really speaking about building a communitarian
society, not dominated by oppressive hierarchies. We have had numerous
contacts with the archist bookstore group and I was surprised to learn
this and how much their real values align with what I value in the ICA.
If you want to read current writings of an "anarchist" read anything by
Noam Chomsky, who recently received the highly esteemed Sydney Peace
Prize for his work in furthering justice and peace in the world.
* one of our colleagues in Germany challenged us about hiding our
"spiritual/religious" roots (after we had gotten some static during a
Town Meeting). He said "when people see something they don't recognise
as coming from their "side" or is unfamiliar, they will assume its from
the "other side" What you are doing comes from, neither, and you need
to say more about where you are coming from. I took this to heart and
am glad for it.
Best wishes
Richard
