I asked Mark if he was on the Boundary Waters trip and he said he was. No further comment fro him unless asked for it, I suspect. Clare Whitney

My son Jon was also on that trip. Had a big impact on him! And he is retiring from the Columbus police dept in December and ready to launch his second career.

  Hi Beret et al,

Our sons, Ben and Jon Crocker were part of the trip up toward Canada (probably with their buddy David Lindblad) when portaging canoes became a new skill set. They spent some time under the leadership of Dierdre Dowsett (whom they adored) and we were told the crew (if that is the right term) mistakenly traversed the US/Canadian border – thankfully, without incident. Dierdre would be a great source of information on this summer adventure.

I am saddened to learn there is a paucity of data on our Emerging Generation program/activities/learnings/etc. I would recommend the archives team contact the wellsprings of memory represented in the Philbrooks, the Packards, Marie Sharp, and so many others whose expenditure shaped the lives of our children.

We are deeply appreciative of the efforts and achievements of the archives team.

Thank you for all of your input. I've asked a Nancy Lanphear and Carol Crow to put together a 1-2 sentence entry for the Chronological History.

Now, there is more history to be written. There is little information in the archives on the Emerging Generation. I will get a list of what is there. If 2-3 folks would like to take on pulling stories and material together on the EG with details on trips, curriculum etc. that would be very good.

In 1980 the 6th grade trip trip was to the Boundary Waters in Minnesota. Our son David Lindblad and probably George Hawley were on the trip that was led by the Bergdalls and a couple other folks. They portaged a lot of canoes and Dave felt a sense of accomplishment. I think they had one night alone as part of the experience. We left on a family trip right after he finished and I don't remember how long their trip was. Bergdalls probably do.

We are living in Cincinnati OH and enjoying watching Dave's second daughter play varsity soccer as a freshman along with her cousin the goalie. His oldest daughter just entered Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. I am currently pulling together our Metro Records for the Archives.

  Best to all.

And I still have vivid memories of that transformative trip to Mexico, Ann! I've told my sons about walking down the avenue of the dead and offering up my childhood to the gods at the top of the sun pyramid just as a torrential rain storm hit.

1983 was a trip to the Canadian boundary waters.

  Thanks

I think it was more like 8 weeks; definitely way more than two!

A few sentences are needed for the Chronological History. My recollections are not at all clear. Your assistance is needed....

So far I've written..."for the 6th grade children of the Ecumenical Institute community. It was a two week as a guided retreat....."

A few more sentences will be helpful.

        Thanks, Beret
