were part of the trip up toward Canada (probably with their buddy David
Lindblad) when portaging canoes became a new skill set. They spent some
time under the leadership of Dierdre Dowsett (whom they adored) and we were
told the crew (if that is the right term) mistakenly traversed the US/Canadian
border – thankfully, without incident. Dierdre would be a great source of

1980 the 6th grade trip trip was to the Boundary Waters in Minnesota.
Our son David Lindblad and probably George Hawley were on the trip that was
led by the Bergdalls and a couple other folks. They portaged a lot of
canoes and Dave felt a sense of accomplishment. I think they had one night
alone as part of the experience. We left on a family trip right after he
finished and I don't remember how long their trip was. Bergdalls
