The best selling cosmetics in Sinosphere (China, Korea, Japan and Vietnam), and other parts of the world, is the skin whitener.  One of my Chinese student and his Mom went down Waikiki under their parasol and had the stare in their lives; I mean, why stroll down Waikiki if you are going to shade yourself from the sun?


Racial prejudice is in the human psyche to stay for a while.  I started calling my skin tone "beautifully brown" when someone tells me I had gotten darker.  When in northeast China, I get sickly pale!


Not to justify the prejudice, but the pro-IndoAryan sentiment is widespread in every continent and the "reality and tragedy" is something we will live with awhile while we subvert its underpinning.
