George, Wanda, the Holcombe family, and Colleagues,
Yesterday I saw a young man wearing a graphic t-shirt that simply said "Blessed". With seven letters in a rainbow of colors.So I thought of you, George. And I'm sorry I can't get a t-shirt to send you.But I can simply say this much: you are Blessed, George. And part of our experience is that you have blessed and honored and inspired so many others. Known and unknown to us.I get that this message, if it gets through somehow, will be filtered through your experience of being in a liminal, transitional state of passage into an unknown reality beyond the everyday preoccupations of the living.But what I remember of you is that twinkle in your eye, and that knowing connection with others around you, and that sly, humorous spirit that beckons us to open up to un-dreamed-of possibilities by sailing forth into uncharted waters.You have been blessed to embody fully, wherever you are, that ineffable spirit of Fifth City and demonstrate Care for all humanity and for the earth.And forever blessed to simply Be your Be (as JWM said about Richard Niebuhr) in and for Eternity.So that all of us can participate with you. In humility, gratitude, and compassion.Go in Grace, brother.(And all who read this said Amen.)

One of George’s greatest pleasures in life was sharing & hearing stories about other people. He built his life around understanding diverse cultures and caring for others. George has been battling Pancreatic Cancer for almost 3 years. He has chosen to begin his last life’s Journey with the care of Hospice & family.
