Colleagues,
Steve Ediger wrote the Sojourn Overview on behalf of the ICA Global
Archives Advisory Council to welcome folks to one of the largest sojourn
gatherings in the history of the ICA Global Archives. People are
participating in person and on-line. We want you to be aware of what is
happening. As work gets your may receive requests for assistance. You will
be kept up-to-date on sojourn work.
Sojourn Overview
This Sojourn will focus on three areas.
- ICA is working with a consultant to register the Greenrise building on
the National Register of Historic Places. In addition to getting credit
for the important role that ICA/EI has played in Chicago, the USA and the
world, this would open the possibility of getting historic tax credits to
cover needed infrastructure maintenance and upgrades on the
building. The Historic
Role of the ICA Greenrise group will be doing the research and collect
documents to begin telling this story, based on the Uptown 5 project
(Chicago), Town Meetings (USA), and Human Development Projects (global).
Team guides: Beret Griffith, beretgriffith at gmail.com, Global Archive
Team & Jim Troxel, troxel49 at gmail.com <jtroxel49 at gmail.com> ICA Board
- Karen Snyder, karen.snyder10 at gmail.com will be heading up a key study
on Training, Inc. The Training, Inc. group will take a look at this key
Imaginal Education program with a historical review from the past,
problem-solving units on present and future through the lens of the past.
- Jack Gilles jackcgilles at gmail.com will facilitate the New Religious
Mode group in curating NRM materials and bringing them forward to share
with “Those Who Care”. Work will focus on sharing the NRM with Wesley
Theological Seminary, in Washington DC. where there is an opening to build
a relationship between the ICA Archives and J.W. Mathews files that are
being curated by the seminary.
Although some folks will be getting in the week before, our official launch
will be at 8 am on Monday, September 21. At 10 am, Ted Wysocki will join us
with some introductory remarks. By Monday afternoon, we will break out into
teams and begin our work, with some participants in the GreenRise and
Google Hangouts with those not able to attend physically. Every day will
end at around 5 pm with a short wine and cheese and an opportunity to
reconnect with each other and exchange gems from the day. On Thursday, we
plan a special celebration after our work. By Friday morning, we’re asking
teams to complete their work and a report on it. On Friday afternoon we’ll
gather in the Bonhoeffer room at 1 pm to set up for final reports. At 2 pm
we’ll hear final reports from each of the teams and have some dialogue.
Both Monday’s and Friday’s plenaries will be broadcast via Google Hangouts
on Air/Youtube to ensure the fullest possible participation. These will
also be recorded for addition to the Archive’s materials.
NOTE: If you have any questions about the work or if any of you are
interested in being a part of the sojourn, please contact the people listed
as team leadership. If you are interested in coming for the sojourn, please
contact:
Steve Ediger steveediger at gmail.com or Jean Long jean.long512 at gmail.com
As September 21st approaches and the participant list, on-site and virtual,
is determined, we will let you know who is doing what and how work is
progressing.
On Behalf of the Archive Advisory Council,
Beret Griffith, Jack Gilles
