He was a man who inspired awe. And then he was the guy down the hall who invited me in one evening after a difficult phone call (his room being right next to the phone), to just hang out and chill. He said to me, "you have a very resonant voice," and suddenly a fundamental character flaw ("you're too loud") became a mere fact, which I have (obviously) remembered all my life.
