The first time since we moved back to the PNW, we rooted for the National League - oh the shame of it! But despite our dear Mariners being American League, we still were rooting all the way for the Cubbies, biting nails and eating our dinner in front of TV! Hallelujah, always dreamed of, hoped for, finally come true. Now if only the Mariners could break their tradition of the one team that has NEVER even been to the World Series! I was only paying attention vaguely from afar. But then it wasn't just the Cubs in the World Series, but it had gone to game 7. That doesn't happen often and seemed to guarantee an exciting game. So I hunted down a local joint with big screens and cider on tap and settled in to watch. Wow. Baseball is very rarely that exciting. And who knew there would be so many Cubs fans in Carlsbad, CA? When they tied up at the bottom of the ninth and then there was the rain delay, I was feeling so anxious, I had to go pee many times. I was really expecting them to give up and lose, but they didn't. They rallied and both teams fought until the end. It was a beautiful thing to watch and a very fitting and deserved end to a 108 year championship drought. As long as the Rangers and Mariners are in the same division, I'll have to stick with the Rangers, who have been to the big show a couple of times and were twice within one strike of winning it all in 2011, but failed to do so. For now I'm celebrating with friends and family a magnificent Cubs triumph. But come spring I will be back in the Rangers' camp while wishing good luck to the Mariners. Randy Sent from my iPad
