Hey friends! I wanted to check in with an update about our Mom, Doris Hahn. In late May, Doris had a rather sudden decline. We learned that she had had a small stroke, causing a substantial change WRT dementia. Doris moved to an assisted living facility on August 5, where she has a nice 1 bedroom apartment, and can keep her sweet dog, Jada. While she's not where she was early in the year, she has recovered well since the stroke and is much more herself, by comparison with even a few weeks ago. We are very pleased with the community she has joined and are grateful that she has support whenever needed. Doris still has a cell phone, but it will only accept calls from known numbers. Doris became (not sure she was aware) my mentor in learning and discovering my journey – her compassion, intelligence and direct nature was opening for me. I am currently living in a 55+ Community Living place in Georgetown so I can be near my Nurse/Doctor Sarai who lives only 5 miles away in Georgetown. We discovered after a number of deaths in my family over the past 6 years that we need an advocate to be sure you’re being cared for wherever you live. Shelley,Our prayers for a complete recovery for Doris. I (Carleton) have appreciated Doris' teaching skill, conviction, and compassion since she co-taught my Parish Leadership Colloquy (PLC) in NYC in 1969 and followed up with a personal visit when I was Assistant Pastor at the Dewey Avenue Presbyterian Church in Rochester, NY.
