RS-1’s Amazing Staying Power I am sitting here in Washington DC at the Citizens Climate Lobby (CCL) Conference preparing to visit Congress people about a low carbon economy or as we talk about it as a ‘carbon fee and dividend, solution’ to Climate Change. We are about 800 people from around the US (just saw David Zahrt- back from his Climate March and setting up CLL chapters). So I am at the faith leaders’ dinner last night with my significant other/ partner Sally Stovall (Dick is the faith leader and Sally is the green leader). So across the table is an elder man with white hair and a full beard. His name tag says “Father John Forney, Episcopal priest from Southern California”. It turns out he is the associate pastor at the largest Episcopal Church in the US with over 4,000 members. In the midst of chatting, he asked, “ Well, what do you do or have done?” Sally says we are retired but still work with the Institute of Cultural Affairs and (brilliantly adds) which use to be the Ecumenical Institute… Immediately John’s face lights up and he Blurts out, “ RS-1!....Yes!, and I would not be here in the church if it were not for RS-1…and Joseph Mathews! In the late 60s he came to Claremont and spoke to 600 young Methodist.. just amazing!” And then the conservation gets serious about all the exciting things John is doing or has started…. The length and depth of RS-1 is exciting.. and the people out in the world engaged and making a difference because of RS-1 is wild..the Archive project should go out and find these people and see what they have done with their lives… and the word. You can search for and find RS1 papers, pedagogy, curriculum papers indexed in the Archives Online located here: https://n38.fmphost.com/fmi/webd#. Some materials have been digitized and are available for download. Some RS1 lectures for example the Freedom Lecture by Kaye Hayes about 1972 can be listened to online You may have a 4x4 or a particular lecture or RS1 teaching story to share and - you can add stuff to the Archives from your computer screen We've been working on a procedure in the Archives how to begin an "Action-Research" Project so that something actually gets created based on the old PSU methodology. If a couple of people want to get started pulling together an a RS1 action-research project to discover people, intellectual and spirit resources for some new work on RS1, The Archives team would love to help you get started. Please email Wendell Refior or Steve Harrington for help with the Online Archives. You can also contact Marge Phillbrook at GreenRise too. You can count on Wendell or me to help you get a good start with the Online Archives which you can operate from your own computer's web browser. Marge Philbrook has a wonderful memory and she knows how to find things you might want in the database too -she's the one that taught the rest of us to respect our roots. Interesting idea Teran. Here is the open access web page link that shows an image of Guernica. https://docs.google.com/document/d/16tcdWbQvmjYNMrDeBOmIQHufptDZB9lrXzn2WjL9... It is one of those kind of webpages that you can type on What kind of message would you like to add and how would you recommend distributing it? Another question. Let's say we found 200 people who -remember going to RS1 -had a story to tell about it What would you want to happen next? (if we were to do several things in a coordinated effort? What outcome would you want to accomplish? Steve On Wed, Jun 24, 2015 at 9:35 AM, Terran Longacre via OE < oe@lists.wedgeblade.net> wrote:

What about everyone who is on Facebook posting a picture of Guernica with agreed on words on the same day at the same time and directing everyone toward an Event Facebook page set up that helps them connect? Bud

In the midst of chatting, he asked, “ Well, what do you do or have done?” Sally says we are retired but still work with the Institute of Cultural Affairs and (brilliantly adds) which use to be the Ecumenical Institute…
Immediately John’s face lights up and he Blurts out, “ RS-1!....Yes!, and I would not be here in the church if it were not for RS-1…and Joseph Mathews! In the late 60s he came to Claremont and spoke to 600 young Methodist.. just amazing!”
And then the conservation gets serious about all the exciting things John is doing or has started….
The length and depth of RS-1 is exciting.. and the people out in the world engaged and making a difference because of RS-1 is wild..the Archive project should go out and find these people and see what they have done with their lives… and the word.

I'm willing to put a picture of Guernica from google on my Facebook page…and I need a little help with how to put a picture there. The rest of your suggestion sounds interesting but I'm not much into Facebook. Seems like you might be able to make a simple guide. Not sure how to find and line-up Facebook people either. Let's say we got 150 people to ask the question with the picture and we got 100 people gathered on the event thingie….so 150 Guernica "friends" 100 new RS1 "friends" now what would we do with those people? Well, first of all, do we need to do anything with them at all? The original idea was to offer a space where people can connect. Couldn’t be just do that? I was thinking of a website where you could search for others based on location, but actually Bud’s idea of a Facebook group is way easier and could accomplish the same thing. If someone created the text we want, then we can just post the photo that Bud just shared with the text and a link to the Facebook group. BTW, there are 7 different ICA groups currently on Facebook plus the Archives group. We could create an RS-1 Alumni group or something like that. Terran E.
