Way back when... O was on a flight out of O'Hare sitting next to a honeymooning couple. Seemed to me that they wanted some privacy, so I looked for a another seat... found one next to a white haired clergyman. We chatted and I shared my stories from living in a family order. He said, "What you are doing is an important effort for all of us. I'm in an order too, and currently assigned to be the President of Notre Dame - I'm Father Ted Hesburgh." After I caught my breath...I offered Lyn Mathews as a point of contact... not sure how that connection worked out. I was deeply addressed by Ted's openness to have an authentic chat with an unknown air traveler. Ray Spencer might recall more about the follow up. I looked up Ecumenical Institute of Jerusalem on Google and discovered that the Tantur Ecumenical Institute officially opened in1972 following its initial dreaming in 1964 from a meeting with Pope Paul VI and Greek Orthodox Patriarch. The Tantur EI was founded by the University of Notre Dame. Clicking on the link to Notre Dame brought the article quoted below about Theodore Hesberg. I have some recollection about Hesberg being a former board member or consultant or something. I recall there was a visit to Rome at one time. Someone help me with this vague memory.
