Dear Communion of Saints, John's earthly existence was completed on Wednesday morning, June 24, 2020. His last words were "thank you," the same words he wrote to you on June 9 in his brief comments, "Thanks for the memories." For five days we were privileged to be in the lovely Denver Hospice which enveloped us with grace and compassion. I am grateful for your many comments of appreciation for John in response to his "Last Collegium." His remains will be interred at the Montview Presbyterian Church Columbarium in Denver. Grace and Peace, Ann

Ann, I want to join with my colleagues and the hosts of people who ever encountered John. He was the bearer or the wisdom of profound living, he was the presence of one who served and his love was boundless. May he rest, in a Journey completed in embracing the Mystery. May God bless him and comfort you. I miss him. Thank you John. Peace, Jack

In thanks for the life of John Epps In appreciation for life changing conversations To hear him again through his writings....doorways, always doorways. An offering from another writer... Praying by Mary Oliver It doesn’t have to be the blue iris, it could be weeds in a vacant lot, or a few small stones; just pay attention, then patch a few words together and don’t try to make them elaborate, this isn’t a contest but the doorway into thanks, and a silence in which another voice may speak. Thank you so much, Joyce. Both John and I so enjoyed working with you and Carlos in Dallas in those days of "optimistic youthfulness," as you put it. I still remember the evening we were together when Martin Luther King was killed and how that affected us. As I recal,l you and Carlos felt you needed to leave that part of town quickly, which was one of the early indications to me that I was pretty naive and it was time to get smarter about such matters. I am glad all four of us decided to move into EI in Chicago, though at different times. Dear Ann – Thank you for taking such great care of John during his last few miles. We know how intense the hospice days can be – good to hear that Grace and Compassion broke into view. We are all so deeply blessed with John’s spirit journey over the years. You and he have been an incredible duo in mission impacting throngs of people around the world in training and planning events. We carry onward enduring memories of the many times that you and John hosted Denver colleagues at your community center for holiday celebrations. In John’s writings “Meanderings I & II” and ”SURPRISE” among many others where his concise and deep reflections are shared. He was also committed to group study sessions – faithfully preparing for seminars at IAF conferences and ToP Gatherings. We will miss John’s humble and powerful presence on the road ahead. Dear Ann and colleagues gathered, I am reminded of how the announcement of death came in my small town in Nebraska. There was usually a posting in the funeral parlour window and then the word filtered out across the community. I've been watching all morning how across the planet we hear the news of John's passing. He was a good man who sang his song in a wonderful voice. Blessings, Jan Janet A. We have many memories of our time together in KL and Australia, in particular Cronulla and the Great Ocean Road journey. Thank you, Isobel and Jim. We really appreciated being in Sydney at the EI House for a short while there many years ago. Ann On Sat, Jun 27, 2020 at 3:41 AM isobeljimbish--- via OE < oe@lists.wedgeblade.net> wrote:

Dear Ann We send our love to you at this time. John made a wonderful contribution to the Order life but that was partly due to the great support you gave him - you made a great team. Ann, We receive this message with a sense of loss but with a deep appreciation for what John’s life has meant to us personally and to the “Communion of Saints” as well. Though he never knew it, his impact on our faith was a crucial at a time when it was important to distinguish between theology and faith. He is, even now, a thoughtful, calming presence for us in these moments where our theology and faith tend to get mixed up and we tend to forget that it is all about life and what we do with the little we have. May your sorrow and loss find comfort in the fullness of life that he so clearly revealed. Bill and Suzanne.
