Re: [Oe List ...] FW: Mowanjum stories-from Julie Miesen
Hi Lynda, Greetings from Frankfurt. We have not more info than you do as we only read about it whilst away from any worries and having fun. We meet up with my brother and his wife on Wed in Progue and then travel to Budapest where we board the Danube Romantic Cruise for 8 days. Will return to Australia on May 27th . Dear Lynda,
I don't think I have John's email address, but you are welcome to put it on the OE list serve. Having spent most of my first 2 years in the Order at Mowanjum, it was the place where I learned most and learned to love the people.
These day, it will probably go unnoticed by the Australian public as the "turn to the right" has descended on us again.
Much love
Julie

John and Julie, Thank you so much for sharing this very tragic news of the deep trouble in the Mowanjun community. I couldn't tell to whom this article was sent, but John didn't receive it which made me wonder if it went out to the OE list serve. Of course the OE list was down yesterday for maintenance so there may have been some loss. Should I send it on to the OE list serve?
Certainly we will keep this in our care. Thank you for keeping us in the loop.

Dear Order Ecumenical and ICA Australia colleagues,
You will remember Mowanjum, the first community the Ecumenical Institute worked in at the end of the 1960s and early 1970.
We loved many of the people there, and have recently learned that it is in deep trouble. The attached articles were written for the Canberra Times and Sydney Morning Herald newspapers, and they are for your information and prayers.
Go well, Julie Miesen

G'day Julie
Attached are the online versions of the same article, by Russell Skelton. I think they're pretty much idenhtical, and cover the same material as in The Age today. I know The Age and The SMH are both Fairfax papers, while The Canberra Times is independent. I suspect Skelton circulated the article widely.
I'll print these off, check with The Age newspapeer (I always get it on Thursdays for The Green Guide), then check The Australian today.
Cheers (hardly the right word)
Frank
