Dear Frank, I know how much this loss means to you personally. I delighted so much how you two found the love and glory of each other late in your lives, but it was (is) there. And it brings back my memories of Sally (and Jim). I was a third teacher in your Cincinnati RS-I. With George Holcombe and I think Marilyn Crocker. I remember being with them at the noon break on Saturday and George saying “Its all over, we could go now.” I had no idea what the hell he saw that I didn’t, but he was right. Now I know that somehow Tillich had hit home and the Spirit had been present. I was just too green to detect it. I spent more time with Sally in the Archives. My first impression was that the three women; Marg, Jean and Sally were like giant rocks of determination that could not be moved, but each wore that dress with different style. Sally always seemed to raise the doubts, but most of the time with a chuckle at the end. And I learned that when she chuckled it was her Amen; it will be done. I will miss that laugh, I will miss her arrival each day. But I rejoice that the three rocks are part of the wall of wonder of we will encounter when we join them. Love to you and to all, Peace, Jack

Yes Sally, you were part of the group of deeply committed colleagues in the Cleveland Region, teaching RS-I, Jim working at the Cleveland Clinic, moved into the Cleveland House at 902 Wheelock Avenue with Joan and Frank (Bob) Knutson, Martha and Dick Talbot, Joe and Sandra Cliff, Jan and Sherwood Shankland, Joy and Herman Greene, Sean Burke, Barbara and Don Barkony, Jody (later May), Zoe and Ken Barley, Jim and Dorthea Jewell (kids Mark, Diane, & Russel) with a powerful Local Church Galaxy led by Mark and Jean Poole, metro pedagogues - Jack and Judy Gilles, Michael and Judith Tippet, Bob and Sandra Rafos, Lois Reeves, Fred and Marian Karpoff, Clancy and Mary Ann Mann, Rose and her Mom Albright, and many, many more! What an amazing multi-faceted team. Claudia and Don Cramer had just departed for DC. (Hey Jack, how's your long-term memory doing?) So many memories are surging this year as you Sally and so many others have joined the collegium beyond... there is a great hall in the Other World where one by one we slowly file in singing and witnessing to our incredible journeys...and the Amazing Grace of Freedom and Forgiveness. Sally - Coming to work in the archives no matter how she felt. I hadn't seen Sally in years when I began working with her in the archives in 2010. Sandra True got me to come and help with sorting and categorizing the Town Meeting Collection. Marge, Sally and Rosemary oversaw the huge project. Then in 2011 Frank and Paul were added to the mix. The team had a great time together. Sally and Frank got together around the same time as Paul and myself - 2011.. The four of us spent a lot of time together - hours and hours in the archive space. Then, on occasion, drinks at Sally's home before dinner out. We talked for hours. After one sojourn we spent a weekend together at the Wisconsin Dells...more talking and talking - a lot about the archives. As the years passed Sally was often not feeling well and would still come in the morning to work. She was instrumental in working with Marge and Rosemary to make sure the documents were professionally handled. She created the Archive Processing Notebook which guided the handling and filing of documents. When she was not able to come to the archives we would visit with her at home, where she continued to work. At the end of a sojourn Paul and I would get some breakfast goodies and have breakfast with Sally at her place before heading back to Minnesota. She contributed so much to the running of the archives and was knowledgeable about every facet of work. Journey on dear Sally. Colleagues - We in the ICA Global Archives Advisory Council rejoiced then and still celebrate the many faithful hours, days and years that Sally worked on the Archives and prodding us each year, or even quarterly to report the hours of volunteer labor and material costs of building the Archives file system and eventually a cataloging category list, later documented in an electronic database. Sally worked with a calm and peace that defied explanation and impressed us all. Thanks Sally for all you gave to us so generously. To All: This poem from a Krista Tippett, On Being episode on Ambiguous Loss, interviewing Pauline Boss, The poem was written by the widow of a celebrated technology pioneer who sailed off one day from the Pacific coast and never returned. Wendell Donna Carnes wrote “Walk On.” “You walk on Still beside me, Eyes shadowed in dusk; You’re the Lingering question At each day’s end. I have to laugh At how Open-ended you remain— Still with me After all these years Of being lost. I carry you like My own personal Time Machine, As I put on my lipstick, smile, And head out to The party.” On Sun, Jul 19, 2020 at 9:22 AM Frank Knutson via OE < oe@lists.wedgeblade.net> wrote:

So what was this “Cleveland Region”? Seems a great moment to document for the archives and posterity this amazing phenomenon!! Jim Wiegel “The old dreams were good dreams; they didn’t work out but I’m glad I had them.” Robert James Waller
