My overarching memory of Charles is that every encounter I had with him – and there were many over Majuro and at the Chicago Centrum – was one of being seen and heard, often difficult for a younger woman in the Order of older men. When he looked at you, he was pure presence. And such a blessing.
May the memories flood you and the blessing of being more than just Order colleagues, but true family. And may you now receive hugs from the inside as his presence remains,

Dear Order Community,
I am writing to share the news that Charles died this afternoon in Bloomington, Indiana. Charles had dementia which had progressed during the past few months. A couple of weeks ago he fell, resulting in transfer to a nursing facility where he died today.
Doris, Shelley and I, and our families, are grateful for his life in ways too numerous to say right now. At some point, when the pandemic crisis is no longer a threat, there will be a memorial service. We will share those details when plans are made. He was deeply loved and will be missed.
