I believe that he’s pointing to the integration of matter and energy, body and spirit—a ‘non-dual’ paradigm of living. In practical terms I think he’s indicating the need to update the language and images of the spiritual traditions to accommodate the discoveries and insights of the single-story universe and the modern world. My impression is that he is noticing the dissatisfaction many people experience when the "other world" (the interior life) appears to be separate from "this world" (the exterior).
