BAHAY KUBO (2020) WITH LYRICS | Animated Filipino Folk Song | Hiraya TV

This song is about a small house surrounded by a variety of vegetables.

Bahay Kubo kahit munti
Ang halaman doon
Ay sari-sari
Singkamas at talong
Sigarilyas at mani
Sitaw bataw patani
Kundol patola upo at kalabasa
At saka meron pa labanos mustasa
Sibuyas kamatis bawang at luya
Sa paligid ligid ay puno ng linga

Bahay Kubo movement in the Philippines is some local community leaders attempt to address food supply and environmental challenges.

Most of the food commodities are imported from China mostly, other Asian countries and the West.

Most farm lands are getting converted to big housing development for Western retirees and resorts.

Like Native Americans here in the USA, some Filipinos are trying to learn back the basics from our ancestors.

Hello Jailu!  So many years.  What have you been involved in??

Yesterday I was in a session trying to imagine the kind of economy / community we need as a human community to thrive / meet the challenges facing us into the rest of this century.  One of the participants is located in The Philippines mentioned she is part of a “Bahay Kubo” movement focused at the household and community level.  It apparently refers to a song written a hundred or so years ago in Tagalog.

I wonder if you or anyone on the list is familiar??

Thanks for the connection through ica/o list. Yesterday, we were in Sudtonggan,Basak, Lapu-lapu City where were toured around by Bebot Rosalada. We recalled HDP days and shared stories. Reconnected with former local staff/volunteers who are still involved in community building and sustaining the structures started during HDP years.

Indeed, one global village by those who care.

Hoping to be updated by other colleagues from journey in different places and phases.

Grace and peace!

Jailu
