Farewell, Monday Memo: June 18, 2018
Goodbye and Hello
by John Gibson

This year marks the 10th Anniversary of Monday Memo. It was started to keep ECI’s growing support-base connected around the values and principles of the Earth Charter as they apply to current events.
In the beginning I wrote most of the columns with occasional guest authors pitching in. A few years ago ( I can’t remember just when) several contributors came on board and enriched the Memo with their unique perspectives. A rotation of MM writers was set up; each taking his or her turn about every 6 weeks.
Now it’s time to move on. ECI’s collaborative activities are expanding. The urgency of action is upon us. The ethical framework of the Earth Charter will continue to inspire and inform us. It remains our bedrock foundation for building sustainable, just and peaceful communities. The question before us now, however, is, more than ever, what are we going to do about it?
In fact, this “turn to action” has already begun. You have probably noticed in recent Monday Memos the addition of coming events and opportunities for involvement. This trend will be carried forward and expanded in a new format that looks more like a newsletter than a blog. It will likely be published semi-monthly instead of weekly. It will serve as a valuable guide to the question “what can I do here and now to advance climate solutions and environmental stewardship?” lt will also highlight and celebrate success stories.
So, please join me in saying “goodbye” (with gratitude) to what has been and “hello” (with anticipation)” to what is next. As always your feedback and input will be appreciated.
For and with our children’s children,
LOOK FOR OUR EXCITING NEW FORMAT COMING SOON! We can't wait to share more actions and stories with you, in a new way.
