Thank you, Sunny, for your witness on our Sainthood. So glad you decided to add your dad's name to our remembrance.

For our local museum & gallery's Day of the Dead exhibit, I made an altar honoring my dad, who was addicted to alcohol, as well as gambling. He didn't honor my mother, who was acknowledged as a saint by many. The healing described below was such a miracle.

Lightened-Up

I dreamed of Daddy,
A healing dream,
Awakening unburdened
From the heavy load
I didn't realize I carried.

The first offense
I chose to bear
Was not having a father
 Like Dick and Jane's,
In a suit, white shirt and tie.

My educated moralism grew.
I resented his country speech,
His chosen fun,
Even his work-scarred hands
And dirty fingernails.

Judgment became a
Cumbersome habit,
Unnoticed, until angels
Came in the night and
Relieved me of its weight.

I don't recall the dream
But awoke remembering
His vast love for me
And the words on his tomb:
"The truth will set you free."

William Appelgate, one of our guardians and known to many of you.  I only decided to add his name after Sunny added her mom who was personally known to me and was truly a saint.

The fact of the matter is that we are all saints as well as sinners.  We tend to focus on the latter and diminish ourselves and the wonder of creation in the process.  At the Iowa In-gathering this weekend I had an amazing encounter with a woman who told a wonderful story about how my father had changed her life forever simply by honestly answering her question at the end of a presentation he had done for Heifer International.  She spoke of the confidence and affirmation of her life his clear and simple answer provided her as a ‘new to the community’ teacher.  She has never forgotten him and the lesson of his response which shaped her life as an educator.

Don’t diminish, either in your lives, your relationship to yourself and others, or in your relationship to the world and the ground of your being your own sainthood.  You are always in the process of encouraging and sustaining others (me) in being.

Margaret

Helen Walker (my mom) – unknown to most of you, but a saint, nonetheless.

I am thinking it would be helpful exercise to post a list of colleagues who have died since last November 1 (2013) -- All Saints Day.
I will start with our most recent one, and please add all the others:
