Had our monthly meeting at our new digs in Georgetown, Texas. Since it was built in the 1920’s we had a period meal with roasted chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy. Mary brought the salad, Deana and Ken the appetizers and Dane and Glenda the wine.  Dessert was ice cream, fruit salad and little tasty bits.

Wanda conducted the program using resources from Rob Works’ book, A Compassionate Civilization. She used 2 pieces: Rob’s New Years resolutions and suggestions. After a conversation on the pieces we selected what we would work on and were given a blank calendar for March to fill out what we begin to do. It was an empowering conversation.

Rob’s 2018 New Year's resolutions:

1. Puerto Rico receives the aid it requires.

2. No war with North Korea or Iran

3. Democrats take back the House and Senate in November

4. Democrats take majority in state houses

5. Dreamers are protected

6. Gerrymandering and voter suppression are reduced

7. Net neutrality is maintained by the Congress

8. Climate chaos mitigation and adaptation are increased by cities, states, nonprofits, businesses, and citizens.

9. Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security are protected and strengthened.

10. The Russian investigation is protected and moves forward. 

Suggestions by Rob: 

To turn your awareness into action, do some of the following:

1. call your legislative reps frequently 

2. join your local party precinct and get out the vote

3. participate in and support your local Indivisible group

4. participate in and support your local Our Revolution group

5. support Democracy Now

6. support 350.org

7. listen to and support Robert Reich

8. support progressive candidates

9. volunteer to help the poor in your community

10. Tell everyone about make or break day November
