That's just one example!According to North Carolina's Weather Authority, Asheville is cut off from the outside world except by air, along with several other communities in Western North Carolina. I-40 is closed in several locations in Haywood County, and it is closed in several places near Old Fort due to mudslides.Part of I-40 slid into the river in the Pigeon River gorge at the TN and NC state line, TDOT said. The Pigeon River is flooding to near-record levels along the interstate, prompting crews to close I-40 off throughout.Much the same happened along I-26.MarshallOn Sunday, September 29, 2024 at 01:41:01 PM EDT, Lynda C via OE <oe@lists.wedgeblade.net> wrote:Talked to Marshall Jones yesterday and he was delighted to have water back on after two days. In Maggie Valley, NC. Safe but rather isolated by bridges and washed out roads. Tried to reach Rob Work, but suspect from area news that lots of repair still going on. Our son jono had seen on FB that Rob and family safe. Our former hometown of Galax in the mtns. hit with flooding, washed out roads and fallen trees, but all we know of safe.
