Dear everyone,
We remember with gratitude and honour Joe the human being I and many others loved.
I also was on the Panchayat in 1977, and flew in from Maliwada and the HDTS about to commence there.
I do remember the Crematorium and Marilyn and David. I think Mary Kurian D’Sousa was also a member of the Panchayat at that time…
Joe was disappointed the Church did not take the leap with the LCX as I recall. His heart was as a Churchman first.
The Australian Church: Lo here, Lo there, was changed.
It was an experience to sit in the Cubicle with Joe and hear him chat about colleagues. I often wonder what he thought of me and also Jim !
We are at a critical juncture here this week with a Referendum to pave the way for our First Nations community to have a Voice to our Parliament. Our entire family have been campaigning towards a YES vote.
It will likely fail which is profoundly sad, in my view. We are still a Nation of fearful people relative to the oldest living culture in the world: the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people; despite our encouraging record of multiculturalism.
Take good care wherever you live, as I reflect on the difference knowing you all - had on my own spirit journey.
With love and in peace,
Isobel

Rob, to your question of where JWM’s cremains reside, it is in a crematory crypt somewhere in Chicago. His children would know the exact place. I was present with others on the Panchayat and Centrum Priors when he died at high noon, while John Epps was delivering the closing address at the conclusion of the weekend of the Guardians Meeting. Those of us present sang, under the direction of his brother, Bishop Jim, all the verses of “Those who Wait on the Lord.” Joe lay in state that afternoon in Lyn and Joe’s quarters at Kemper while any and all Kemper residents, including our children, paid their respects. That evening the Panchayat and Centrum Priors phoned colleagues around the world to inform them of Joe’s passing. If I recall correctly, David Morton and I accompanied Joe’s remains to the crematory, but I can’t be sure — “senior moments.” His Celebration of Life was a powerful sending forth.
Grace and peace, Marilyn

Thanks, Karen, for all you are doing for the ICA archives and much more.
I am wondering what Joe would be doing now in the midst of the challenges of 2023. We turned toward the world. Now we must turn toward being part of the Earth. What do you think?
