James, North Lawndale is just south of the Eisenhower Expressway, which notably bisects a black neighborhood cutting off Lawndale from East and West Garfield Park and isolates people on both sides from their neighbors.
But otherwise it's the same black subculture and economic patterns, including deteriorating housing stock.
Judy's coverage notably surfaces the racism of redlining, etc., in the decline of this neighborhood, including the effect of the great migration of black people from the South for economic opportunities in Chicago.
One of the very few times our national media have bothered to cover these realities.
