Re: [Dialogue] Death of Chris Holcombe
We lost our Son, Chris, Sunday to cancer. He was a grand human being, ask anyone who knew him and many of you did. Raised partially in a ghetto, in Asia, lived among Aboriginals in Australia. Studied Broadcasting out of High School. Dropped out of college twice. Learned trades, managed fast food restaurants. Self taught himself about computers and worked for several Hi Tech companies the last being Apple where he was employed throughout his illness. Had his own interview radio program on a local station. Was a photographer. SXSW being one of the events he shot, Had 2 sons and a granddaughter, and all this touches only the surface, and of course he was part of our community. Always one to lift the mood, be respectful and ask the next question. At his request, we will hold a Memorial Celebration of his life at the Wells Branch Community Center on Saturday, September 26. Thanks to everyone who have extended their condolences. We miss him deeply. <https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10153201825627476&set=a.10153157899872476.1073741841.674162475&type=1> George Holcombe 14900 Yellowleaf Tr. Hi LORD, it's me, Dawn come calling for the Word from you to voice the joyfilled sorrow of colleagues, Wanda and George Holcombe over the loss of their son, Chris. A compadre of my daughter Traci's generation--he stood out amidst the few in days of yesterday as a young man who brought a unique gift to the table of youthful aspirations accompanied with an emerging deep questioning of Life. He discovered like most of us that answers to those questions are oft revealed in the doing of a life. I remember Chris for his youthful exuberance and key sober projections into the breach of existence found and embraced where new structures are created. We join with you, George and Wanda on the occasion for the mpending celebration of the full and completed life of your son, Chris. May your memories of him be they long or fleeting be filled with the sweet poignancy and profound love for the LORD who keeps Chris and all of us until that Day. George, Will you please post details regarding time and address for the memorial service when they're available? There are some second generation folks who hope to be able to attend, and I'd be glad to spread the word through our grapevine. Chris will be greatly missed among his 2G community! Dear George and Wanda: We want to add our tribute to the many already received from other members of the Order Ecumenical. Our family grieves with yours at the loss of your son, Christopher. We witnessed that Chris and our daughter Lizann were loving partners for nearly eight years, including the last four as they struggled mightily with his cancer. Our grandchildren will sorely miss the presence of their joyful "Uncle Chris" at family gatherings; and the planet has lost a talented, learned, wise, and gentle soul.
