Marking a Birthday.
Dear Friends, July 2 marks Sandra True¹s 70th birthday. I ran across this picture and it triggered a welcome memory. We had just spent the day going door to door to get out the vote in Pennsylvania, an important swing state. We bused there from New Jersey with Tim Lush and Rebecca Nichols. The emphasis of our canvassing was on women¹s rights and engagement. We felt empowered, alive and joyful in the exchanges of the day. Sandra cared deeply for the empowerment of women and this thread ran throughout her life in her work, friendships, and family. She had a special collegiality with the strong women of the Movement and Order. She loved standing shoulder to shoulder with local women in communities around the world. So, please join me in a birthday remembrance. Bob

What a wonderful reminder of Sandra's deep spirit. It just shines from her eyes--the spirit of a wise woman unafraid to stand and beckon. I'm remembering the Global Women's Forum Sandra conducted in my living room on Capitol Hill. Same spirit...same beckoning. How many people, how many places. Happy 70th, dear Sandra, and thank you. Thank you Bob for sharing this precious picture. I am surrounded by pictures of Rodney from every phase of his life...and i find that very sustaining. As i prepare to move to an apartment in a center for "older" folks I am having to decide which of the hundreds of pictures in this house i will have room for. Pictures are central to my life...and you can see that for you in this marvelous picture of you and Sandra. Since Rodney's death a year ago I have used different pictures of us together for my profile pic on Facebook. This pic of the two of you would be lovely as your profile picture on Facebook. Just a thought. Thanks. Priscilla Wilson On Jul 1, 2012, at 9:35 PM, Joyce Sloan wrote:

Marking a Birthday.Dear Bob, A lovely picture of a woman with many kinds of beauty. You, Sandra, Tim and Rebecca: No wonder PA came through! Who could resist such a team! Thanks for your work - I also went across the border from NY to the Scranton and Wilkes-Barre areas during the 2008 campaign to knock on doors and talk to folks. And this campaign made a difference in the direction of the country. Sandra also made a huge difference in keeping ICA-USA from "going out of business" at least legally, and perhaps actually, at a time when the board was barely hanging on. It took faith, intelligence, guts and perhaps the humor that made her such a great person to work with. I'm sure you played a big part in all she was able to do, Bob. Now ICA vitality is bursting out in many ways and locations, with great leadership from staff, board and many colleagues. I feel that I personally and all who care about ICA owe Sandra a lot, along with others who kept the faith through very difficult times. So now we have an opportunity to put all we have learned into new forms of service on behalf of the future. Thank you, Sandra, and Bob.
