Opinion piece from the NYT on Solidarity
Dear Friends & Colleagues, Here is an opinion piece, "The One Idea that Could Save American Democracy," by Astra Taylor & Leah Hunt-Hendrix, New York Times, March 21, 2024. Thanks to Paula for turning it into a shareable PDF. I was intrigued by the similarity between the concept of solidarity and our powerful ethic & practice of corporateness. Thanks for the article. I am thinking "solidarity" cpmes out of the Common Style triangle which has to do I think with the processes that create a common ecology of behaviors -- certainly, there has been an explosion of identity seeking all across that dynamic with new and new and more detailed and diverse identities coming out. the last part of the paper was a bit confusing for me -- was it proposing solidarity primarily within the "left, progressive" side against the right authoritarian side or solidarity across the board ? Dear Colleagues, I am interviewing with our ICA Nepal colleague, Ashbin Kumar, about a book he is writing on ICA’s approach to community empowerment. We came upon ICA’s roots in world religions and ecumenism, and I realized that the Ur Images course or World Religions RS-IIIC has only 1970s archive papers. https://icaglobalarchives.org/collections/spiritmovement/academy/religious-c... Has anyone done any work on this since then? (Perhaps related to Joseph Campbell’s work?). Is anyone interested in reviving the Ur images with reference to post-modern mythology? I would like to interview you with Ashbin on a Saturday next month, and perhaps find a time in the next year when we can reteach that course in the subcontinent. I am also traveling to Chicago and Philadelphia in the first week of August if we can meet up. Don
What is the book about?? Seems the main content we have on "ur images" is that chart. Was a great image, not sure how to use it today . . . There is a lot going on about human deeps these days . . . a lot about connection with nature and also what are called "indigenous" world views. I wonder if Gilles did anything with this? Maybe in the Image https://wedgeblade.net/files/archives_assets/21880.pdfAt first glance I don't see anything. Maybe in one of Vance Engleman's publications??
