Dear Colleagues, A friend is asking me about 4 novels from our community in the 70s that were related to God, Christ, Holy Spirit, Church. He thinks two of them were The Sybil and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Perhaps another was Journey to the East. What other novels do you think of from the 70s? Thanks, Jeanette
Zorba the Greek, Franny and Zooey, Catcher in the Rye, The Last Temptation of Christ, The Greek Passion. Some movies, in addition of course to Requiem for a Heavyweight, were High Noon, On the Waterfront, Little Big Man, Man of La Mancha, Cabaret. For me the book was Journey to the East, though I didn’t realize at the time quite how it would continue to pervade my consciousness into the future. Movies would be Zorba the Greek and Requiem for a Heavyweight. Another movie the rest of you may have missed but one that spawned a profound spirit discussion at the Religious House experiment and cadre in Caracas in 1972 or 73 was Clockwork Orange. Mid-70s it was Carlos Castaneda. Susan Susan Fertig-Dykes (personal email account) And the Lord shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought .
