Becoming

As I watched the stars fall from the sky,

I knew instantly that heaven was gone forever.

Before dawn, when it had become clear

that far is near and beyond is within,

I was embraced by a Holy Mystery

the filled me with awe,

took my breath away,

and opened the floodgates of my heart.

Now when I listen to the silence,

and look past the brilliance of the sun,

trying to imagine before the beginning

and beyond the edge of everything,

I am certain that the becoming

we were called to be before time began

will be fulfilled in us today.

Natural Miracles

Our struggle to become ourselves is an act of creation.

Our engagement in life energizes human evolution.

Our care for one another expands the universe.

It is a natural miracle that

Being evokes tears of gratitude,

silence offers a warm embrace

and darkness invites us to music and dance.
