Seeing all these statements of love and memory , I feel compelled to write too. Joseph Mathews has a special place in my heart and mind too. I wanted to intro a song I had composed and did not know what to do, so a gal from the guardians took me to his
small space used during the summer program an asked him if I could pass it along. Sure, he said- "Sing it" so she and I sang it. He applauded and we went our ways. It was both embarrassing and elating.
My life is changed now, but I want to acknowledge Don Hinkleman now. I had such a good time in Japan , a lot to do with him being there as well as the Global Odyssey experience. It is so nice to "hear" that you are out there. Take care of yourself.
re: Fifth City, it is good that the Iron Man/Woman still stands and I will try to go see the archives (I do not drive much anymore) and will contribute as you suggest. Love to all

Is there a shrine for JWM?
This summer I visited the shrine, which is called the ICA Archives at 4750 N. Sheridan. A guardian of these archives, Karen Snyder, gave me a tour and I was totally impressed with the beauty, care, and comprehensiveness of the records—both on paper and on the web.
https://icaglobalarchives.org/joseph-w-mathews/ I have given a donation to the Archives and I urge others to do so. <

I also took a pilgrimage with Terry Bergdahl to 5th City to see the Iron Man and the 5th City Preschool, which has reopened after covid-era reconstruction. The Iron Man (Woman) stands tall and I guess Joe would see it as a fitting tombstone for his memory.
Rest In Peace, Joe.
All the wisdom so apropos for our times, here and now.Love to all and prayers for our world,

We celebrate the birthday of this man who not only helped to start a movement but who for us is also a prophet for our times now! Thank you to the Giver and Sustainer of Life for Joseph Matthews and for the cadre of Those Who Care across the global village and our own communities!
Blessings!

Today, we celebrate the 112th birthday of our teacher Joe Mathews. And on the 16th of this month, we mark the day that he died at the age of sixty-six. Gratitude for his clarity, wisdom, and passion to serve the least, the last, and the lost. Now in our time of chaos, collapse, and transformation, may we each be strengthened by his words and deeds.
