Thanks for bring this to our attention in general and mine in particular. During my participation in a 35-week (!) bible study series in 2021, I was stimulated to look for these kind of efforts to link historical data with mythological stories, especially from Genesis and Exodus. One of the more interesting one had to do with historical “evidence” about the departure of Israelites from Egypt — all connected to the stories about Moses. After the 1996 ICA Global Conference in Cairo, I made a solitary pilgrimage to St Catherine’s monastery (no old OE folks would join me) via a tight seat in a mini-van for 8 hours. Founded in the 4th century and operating continuously since then, it probably is the oldest tradition claiming to be Mt Sinai where the 10 commandments were received. Pilgrims like me (about 100 of us, mostly Greeks) left at midnight to climb to the top in order to be there for sunrise. It was a memorable three days!
