To me, that chapter supports the official fiction of the US government that they designed and used the bomb for the benefit of mankind rather than their desire to dominate and exploit other nations. Chardin's Mass on the World is moving to listen to but his position on this major event, which to me exemplifies "evil", reveals that he is either naive or is alienated from reality.
