<div>We are working through the Presbyterian Church (USA) which, through its presbyteries, synod, and environmental ministries has been reporting, supporting, and sending people to N. Dakota. At the national level, a recent statement by the June General Assembly apologized for the role the church played in boarding schools which essentially sought to destroy Native American culture as well as other wrongs. I don't know if this is the first apology, but it's the only one I remember.</div>

<div>I continue to work the PC(USA)'s Joining Hands Partnerships which works in partnership with networks in 9 countries to address root causes of hunger and poverty, focused on three areas: Land and Food Issues; Trade Issues; and Resource Extraction and Climate Change/Environment Issues. Each of these areas, or "Tables", as we are calling them, sponsors regular webinars/conference calls open to anyone who is interested. I convene the Resource Extraction Table and calls. Our next one, November 2, 3PM EST/2 Central, will focus on the N. Dakota situation and possibly also ANWR. Previous calls/webinars have focused on indigenous communities in Peru, Bolivia, and Ecuador that are trying to protect their land, water, air, and their very lives from the contamination and degradation caused by extractive industries. So we are trying to connect the dots with indigenous communities related to the environment as well as other partners in Cameroon and Congo dealing with oil extraction, contamination and transparency issues.</div>

<div>I had a chance to talk rather briefly with Salvatore. He and Dianne spent two weeks there and he was profoundly addressed. He was recalling PauñHawkins book “Blessed Unrest” in which he said that when the three Movements that have been birthed in the last few decades begin to coalesce we will have a new reality on our hands. Specially he, Hawkins, was referring to the Environmental, Peace and Indigenous movements. And Standing Rock (I find it compelling that this was one of our HDP sites) is the visible combination of these three. He said there were 7,000 there. </div>

<div>Yes, it’s not getting the attention of the establishment press, but I don’t worry about that. If it is real (and I believe it is) the spirit will move dramatically across the world. This will be the manifestation of the Spirit Movement in our time. I also believe that it will need, and will attract, the Mindfulness movement as well. And I believe that the indigenous people’s will be the apex and guiding spirit for this because of their preservation of mindfulness in relationship to the Earth. </div>

worried about people who aren't prepared for a North Dakota winter. After all, if the Mandan hadn't taken them in, Lewis and Clark and their party would have died. 40 below zero on the thermometer is tough.</div>
